got my MBP today.....they told me that this board will NEVER have the same problem again.....apparently they never had someone coming back with the graphic card problem after their logic board had been replaced..lets see....

I ran the AHT and everything turned out to be okay....fingers crossed....
 
Is there a test to run to see if one has a faulty 8600? I just learnt about that issue and I have 2008 MBP. It is my work tool and I can't afford it to fail on me when it decides it is time.

I read about Apple running a sort of Nvidia test but I was not able to find one.

It can be that Leopard does not stress the GPU as much as SL and the chip not getting so hot the connections are not failing.
Not "it can be". It "is". Snow Leopard uses OpenCL on the Nvidia chips so it definitely uses the GPU more than Leopard did.
