iTunes movie playback up to 10 hours?Can anyone tell me your experience of battery life while using the new macbook base model?Multiple reviews indicated that the battery life of the new macbook is around 4-5 hours.In my opinion is totally unacceptable for a ultrabook.

The MacBook is generally good for 6-10 hours, depending on use. Very similar to the MBP.
The verge's test shows that the movie playback time is about 5 hours 30 minutes,that is nowhere close to number that the Apple proclaimed
I can tell you that I get reliably 7-9 hours of use. It's noticeably better than my Surface Pro 3 where I get about 5-6 hours of real use. But everyone is different. It depends on what you install, what you use it for, and how bright you like the screen.
I see,the battery life is what I'm most concerned about.I'm waiting for the next gen with a more efficient processor to be able to have longer battery life,but 7-8 hours is enough for me.So I intend to buy one right now
I own both, and they aren't "ultrabook" as you called the MacBook 12" ...
No it's not.
MBP 13" (2015) has 2-3 hrs more of battery life compared to the MacBook.
But it's also bulkier and heavier....
well, maybe you could call "ultrabook" the MBA 11", surely not the MBA 13", that is even bigger than my MBP 13" in a way ...
BTW it's all debatable since the definition of "ultrabook" leave space to many interpretations (there are websites speaking about ultrabook for laptops weighting more than 3 lbs and with 13-15" displays !)
When Steve Jobs pulled the MBA out of envelope,I believe that is the moment that demonstrated the meaning of "Ultrabook“
yep, a good theatrical move at the time. But a lot of things changed since then.
I suspect my actual MBP 13" would enter the same envelope....
I can't speak to OSX because I run Windows exclusively, but on a 16 hour international flight in airplane mode I was able to watch 8 hours worth of movies and TV shows and still have 2 hours of battery to spare when I landed.
This was in airplane mode using 25% backlight and using Windows 10 "battery saver" feature.

It was. The "ultrabook" definition came as a response to the MBA so naturally some people just call the MBA an ultrabook.

Actually, it was the other way around. I owned several Acer and Sony machines since 1996 that were very thin. In fact, my Sony Z Series circa 2008 was thinner/lighter than the MacBook Air at launch, I remember my friend excitedly telling me he just ordered his and my remarking that I didn't want to take a step back in size/height/weight compared to my Sony.
If anything, the "Ultrabook" moniker came about in response to that crappy POS "Netbook" category of computers that nearly killed the industry.

Exactly the same experience for me.
SP3 was around 5-6, rMB 7-8 (with much higher brightness might I add, 75%, whereas SP3 was on 50%).
Windows 10 is a battery hog and an unfinished product, the edge browser and cortana features destroy battery life. SP4 is getting worse than SP3 fwiw.
No, you're wrong. Intel created the ultrabook spec as a clear answer to the MacBook Air. Ultraportable laptops before the MacBook Air were a steaming pile of crap.
You're telling me there were MacBook Air like laptops in 1996? Laptops were like 2 inches thick then...
Intel wouldn't create anything for Microsoft that was in response to anything Apple did. Never forget that Windows is 96% of the OS and hardware market. Apple is 4%, and take out the iMac and the Pro and you're probably left with an insignificant 1% of all notebooks sold as the Air. In 2011 Intel realized that the iPhone was here to say and competing with a device like that required a new class of laptops. Thin and light made a ton of sense, still does.
Suggest you do some research on the Sony Z Series, the one above is from 2003 and was less than 1.5" thick and was considered best-in-class at that time. And each year they got thinner and thinner, the Z Series was the wealthy-businessman's ultraportable for several years, well before Apple ever got serious about the form factor.
Oh, and if the black keyboard/black screen/silver body design cues look familiar, keep in mind that this notebook pre-dated the MacBook Pro by 5 years. Sony and Windows were the kings of what became the "Air" segment and it began a decade before the Air was released. In fact, since the Air's release in 2008 I myself have owned 4 different Sony Vaio Z's that were lighter and thinner at the same screen sizes. The only reason I left the Sony family is because they got out of the notebook space. My RMB running Windows is fantastic, it's what Sony Vaio would have done themselves if they were still around.
