On an airplane or on days when I have long meetings, I carry an external USB battery pack and USB C to USB A cable. While in some cases it won't charge the battery (depending on screen brightness, processor load, etc) I can get 2x the runtime with a pretty small 6000 mah USB battery. Charging from a standard USB battery pack is a key difference between the Macbook retina and MB Air for me. I carry an extra battery around anyways to charge my phone and it makes it easy to get 24 hrs of runtime on long flights with a 10,000 mah battery I carry anyways when traveling. The only issue is that the batteries are often not able to provide enough juice to run with a flat internal battery. I will probably need to wait for the promised USB C batteries from Anker that are coming.

Hopefully battery life will be improved with Skylake. For me to be convinced on the Macbook, it must have a killer battery life since there are so many compromises on other fronts (no magsafe, performance of Core M, etc).
