Bought it, expecting it to be as good as the Torro cases I normally use. Nowhere near.

Pros
  • Thin yet decent protection.
  • Aesthetically one of the better looking folios.
  • Button covers are excellent.
  • The "smart cover" aspect is great. Took a little getting used to from the point that I already switch the screen off before closing it.
  • Easy to remove phone from case in comparison to other folios.

Cons
  • Mute button is horrendous to get to.
  • Holding the phone with the front flap folded around the back is annoying. Slides and moves around because it doesn't fold flat.
  • Used two cards in the card holder, then went to one and now falls out far too easily.
  • Bills slot is pointless (UK notes). the £5 & £10 which is quite similar in size to the American dollar bill size isn't small enough to fit in horizontally. Fold them and the case becomes far too bulky.

Definitely going to be changing it up to something else. Expensive experiment lol

I don't keep cards or money in my iPhone cases, but I fully agree . Despite the great Smart Cover functionality, a wallet not being bulky and the :apple: Logo there is not much to gain :(

Just bought my iPhone X today and also a folio case..... I tend to keep my iPhones naked at home and only put them into a case when going out-and-about. The folio looks as though it will serve my purposes nicely in protecting both the screen and the back of the phone when the iPhone is in my purse. I don't plan to put credit cards, driver's license or money into the front cover section unless I'm going out somewhere and not carrying a purse at all, in which case it could be handy. I really like the Smart Cover functionality, which I have always enjoyed with my iPads.

Just got the folio very lightly used for 60 bucks. I’m undecided whether I’m satisfied with it or not.

The leather quality is soft and decent, although I know a even a small drop on asphalt will result in a tear in the surface. Still, it has a nice grippy feel and I like the color (Taupe)

The sleep/wake function has been something I have wanted for awhile. It’s finally here and it works as it should. Unfortunately, as others have pointed out, the cover slides around too much when closed. This can result in inadvertently waking up the phone in your pocket. Bad design-my opinion is that they should’ve made it a proper magnetic closure, and not put a credit card slot in the flap. Most people carry wallets, and aren’t looking to replace it with a phone case. I mean, just use Apple Pay and leave the card and license in your wallet. Basically, I’d like to have a smart case as we have for the iPad. Also, the trifold flap design of the smart case would be ideal-along with a silicone version. Not everyone likes leather, and silicone is easily cleaned.

Big issue-the rubber seal on the edges of the leather outside the seam is way too easy to tear. I feel that they could’ve done better in this regard. Looks nice, but I could literally tear it with my fingernail. Not good.

Maybe I’m just not the target buyer for this case. Anyhow, I sure wouldn’t drop a 100 bucks on it knowing what I do now. Maybe spending some time with it will endear it to me, but my first impression is very mixed.

Most people used to have to carry a phone and an mp3 player if they wanted to listen to music. Times they are a changing.

Went two years wallet free with a 6+ and then a 7+. 2 cards + drivers license and cash notes (made even better when the UK released the new £5 & £10 which are perfect size for the plus phones). Not at all possible with the Apple Folio which is the predominant reason people were buying a phone with a card slot and a note slot, a wallet replacement.

Why carry two bulky items when you can carry one?

Honestly though, I don't think this phone or the 8 or 7 is suitable to be a wallet replacement phone. That honour is purely for the plus sized phones.

I've gone back to none folio/screen covering case. Until the iPhone X+ comes out

Agreed. This case isn’t suitable as a wallet replacement. It simply makes a compact phone feel like a small book. After a week, I’m done with this case. It just feels awkward, and the design is sloppy. Factor in the mic issues, and it seems that Apple really dropped the ball on this case.

I've had mine just over a week now and have used it when traveling and when going out-and-about in town; so far I'm quite satisfied with it, as it does what I wanted, protects the screen when the phone is in my purse or bag, and I really like the sleep/wake cover, which is working pretty well so far. I don't use my folio case as a wallet replacement. A friend came over the other day and she has a folio case made by a third-party manufacturer, and while it is a pretty case, it does not have the sleep/wake functionality. Also it is not easy to remove the phone from the case, as it apparently sticks in there with some sort of adhesive. For me that would not be acceptable, as I want to be able to easily remove my iPhone from any case that it is in.

Sounds real cheap and nasty.

I've bought many folios over the years and this one, quality wise is ok, but the front cover not sitting properly (sliding about a bit) coupled with the fact that the compartments provided are not up to scratch and therefore pointless, makes it one of the worst (especially at the pricepoint) I have ever owned. Got it sitting in my desk drawer at work and will probably get thrown out in about 5 or 6 years when I have a clean out of all the other crap I build up lol

Its a very nice case. Around the house I dont use face id or password locks so all i have to do is open the case and its at the home screen. No pushing buttons touching the screen or swiping up. Its very convenient.

One year on. How are folks liking their Apple Folio cases? I've just got one for my new XS Max. I kind of love it and hate it at the same time. I do find it very useful when going out and about, saves on taking my wallet. Hate it when in my car as it will not fit in the car holder so I have to switch to the normal Apple leather case. I bought Black again. I like the Forrest Greens and the Product red but just feel in time the black is the "classic" colour. Any thoughts?

I learned fairly early on I am just not a folio type of user.

Tried on 3G, 4 and once again on the 6Plus and never used it for very long.

I like the look and idea of the design but in everyday use, it just does not agree with me or me with it.

Shame.

I got the Black case for my XS and I like it overall. I picked black because the case is not available with Saddle Brown or Taupe option and I found Forest Green to be too dark.

To me, the convenience of not having to bring a wallet and screen protection are worth the hassle of holding the phone with a cover half opened to use the camera.

I thought I would miss the magnetic cover flap, which probably would be a factor for those who keeps the phone in a bag. But I don't and I appreciate the convenience of being able to flip open the phone one handed.

The main reasons why I picked this pricier Apple case over alternatives are (1) auto unlock, (2) metallic button feels fantastic, and (3) among the thinnest and lightest folio cases out there.

I returned my black folio today in exchange for the Forrest green. I think it’ll age nicely.

Love mine, had the blue on my x last year, and now black on my Xs max, really great quality case imo. Only issue last year was the rubber surrounding the case started peeling off, I’ll be keeping an eye on that this year.

Do you find these cases take a little while to lose their “funny” smell out of the box?
