It's 10 years since the release of The Big Lebowski, a film that split cinema audiences down the middle but created a strange cult. Is The Dude a slacker prince for our times?

Not everybody likes The Big Lebowski.

The Big Lebowski is a cult film. That is to say, not everybody likes it but those who do, in the main, have a special relationship with it.
BBC.

I have a "special relationship with it", so this article deserved a thread :D

Certainly, to my mind, the Coen brothers' second best film.

"Shut the f**k up, Donny!"

nobody messes with the jesus!

One of the best characters from a film, ever.

Watching them polishing their balls was an absolute riot. :D And I haven't seen the film since it was released, so the fact that I remember the ball-polishing scene so vividly goes to show you how much of an impact it had on my life.

Or am I thinking of a porn?

.....uh......no, TBL was just that good.

*cough*

Oh yeah.

It gets better and better the more you watch it. I didn't even particularly care for it when I saw it in the theaters - now it's one of my favorites.

"Hey careful, man - there's a beverage here!"

"Shut the f**k up, Donny!"

I use that line on a daily basis with my friends. :D

I've seen the movie so many times...it's big in college right now. In some way I see it as a cultural marker, if you want to overanalyze you can draw out a lot of themes that define the transition into the era we're living in right now.

My favorite movie. Definitely a milestone. It's gaining popularity all the time. My friends and I had a Big Lebowski night where we stayed in drinking White Rusians watching the movie.

Fantastic.

Its a cult hit.

I do have a friend that travels to where ever leboskie-fest is being held that year tho. Last i remembered it was wisconsin.

The only Bob Dylan in my iTunes collection is from this film.

Anyone see Burn After Reading yet? How does that compare?

Watched it, but didn't even get a chuckle out of me once. Only good parts were the dream sequence and the Autobahn cover.

Awesome movie.

My first car (which I had before the film) was a '72 Gran Torino (The Dude's car), so I definitely identified with this film straight away.

I haven't watched it all the way through for a few years, but I watch certain clips of it quite often for a quick chuckle. :)

My favorite line:

The Stranger said:
The Dude abides.

I don't know about you, but I take comfort in that. It's good knowin' he's out there takin' 'er easy for all us sinners.

Awesome. :D

8-year olds, dude

My favorite movie. One year I *will* attend LebowskiFest.

Even got a little shrine in the living room ;)
