I'm on a grandfathered unlimited family plan with 2 iPhones. As soon as tmobile gets their 3G iPhone service up in my area I'm paying my ETF and jumping ship. I did the math and I'll save over $1000 on service over the two years, even if I buy an iPhone unlocked at full price. I'll get my wife an Android phone because she doesn't really care as long as she gets her email. The tmobile plan will get me 1000 minutes, unlimited texting, and unlimited data (2gb high speed, which is plenty for our usage) for $79/month. That compares to the $150 something were paying now.

He might not be on a share everything plan...if this is the case hes paying somewhere near $110+..... $60 for 450 mintues + $20 texting + $30 2 gb data...this was an old plan before share everything... With share everything u get unlimited texting and calling + 2 gb data and free hot spot...the $40 is to use the plan your still paying the same price ....in fact im paying less even with my ipad and 4 gb then i did with unlimited data

you're paying less for less data? that's fantastic

Thanks for the reply. If you use the iPhone (I assume it's an iPhone 5) on T-Mobile, you won't be able to use LTE, correct?

----------

Also, does AT&T offer better individual plans or is it basically the same price as Verizon?

That's right on the no LTE. In my area tmobile's "4G" service is 3-4 times faster than Verizon's 3G, so I'll be plenty happy with it.
And AT&T and Verizon are pretty much the same in the cost of their plans. You might save $10 or so with one or the other depending which plan you choose.

Actually, just found out that AT&T offers Individual Plans, whereas Verizon does not. On AT&T, you can get 450 min + Unlimited Text + 3GBs of data for $90 per month. On Verizon, the closet plan would be the one I mentioned above (Unlimited Mins and Text + 2GBs of data for $100 before taxes). It's so weird to me that Verizon no longer has Individual Plans (only Share Everything) but AT&T does.

Yes - Verizon continues to play their games. The unlimited talk and text plan on a single line used to be $70. Then you would add a $30 data plan and get to $100 plus taxes.

Basically, for a single line now, they charge you a $40 "access fee" and then $60 for unlimited talk and text and 2GB worth of data. So it is, more or less, the same plan - but they break out the charges differently. From what I can tell, it is somewhat beneficial for a family with multiple smartphone lines. For the average single line user, however, being forced into unlimited talk and text with no option like Shrink has for a "minute" plan, is like being forced to....(insert unpleasant sexual reference here)

Can you clarify what you mean by it ends in a year? If you're referring to your contract, even when it expires you can just go month by month without losing your current plan

This Share Everything plan is a complete ripoff for individual users who use only one iPhone and no other devices.

Absolutely this. As was told to me by several Verizon reps, if you start a new plan now you have to get a shared data plan. According to verizon "no one" has just one device nowadays. "Everyone" has a family with multiple lines or atleast a cell phone and a tablet or hotspot device or something. They do not have a plan for a single person with one device. I believe the cheapest plan you can get for a smartphone is about $90 and I think that is with minimal data.

Basically now you pay for unlimited talk and text and then whatever data plan you want. Once you have that picked out you then pay a connection fee to access your plan from a device. In the case of smart phones, that is $40 on top of what your plan is. It's ridiculous, but sadly I think this is going to become the industry standard soon.

Yep, Verizon is quite expensive.

I'd look at AT&T or Sprint. While Verizon is often regarded for having the best coverage, you might be surprised to see how well AT&T or Sprint might be in your area.

Verizon does have the overall best coverage but unless you're in an area where the other carriers are really bad I would pass on them. The share plans are absolutely horrible for individual users. I was actually considering trying them out to get the iPhone 5 until I saw how outrageous the price of the new share plans are. Even though I can afford them, I refuse to pay that much for phone service.

Ill stay with Tmobile and wait for them to finish the iPhone refarm.

Omg you guys are getting reemed (violated) in the US

Up here in Canada I'm paying 50$ a month for:

6gb
300 mins
Unlimited eve and weekends (5pm)
Unlimited messaging
And some other corporate stuff, cheaper roaming and long distance etc.

I'm on telus, but under a corporate plan, the only caveat is I can't upgrade anytime like people with telus consumer plans, I have to wait till the last 6 months of my contract. I had to buy my 5 outright

This is why I'm just waiting on T-Mobile to get LTE in Dallas I'm sure they'll get most of Dallas covered before Sprint does anyway next year.

A guy that I work with just got on a new individual plan at the beginning of this month when he got the iPhone 5. $30 for 2gb Internet. Did they change it since then???

They tend to follow each other but they don't in all cases. Consider that at&t had rollover for ages and Verizon never did, for example. Use what works for you.

Read the OP again. OP wants to upgrade with a subsidy which means losing unlimited. OP needs to decide what's most important and choose the options that fits best. It's either: don't upgrade and keep VZW unlimited, pay the unsubsidized price to get the upgrade and keep VZW unlimited or switch carriers.

They have terrible prices, and no you cant leave without an ETF. You made no sense with your statement.
Read the OP again. OP's looking into options at the end of contract so ETF is irrelevant.

I currently have an Unlimited Plan with 450 minutes on Verizon. It ends in a year and I was looking at Verizon's other plans in case I don't want to buy a new phone at full price to keep my Unlimited Data.

So it's $40 per month for the phone + $60 for 2GB of data + $12 in fees and taxes. Is this seriously the cheapest plan available on Verizon for the average individual iPhone user who uses more than 1GB per month. It's ridiculously expensive.

Are they any secret cheaper plans that aren't advertised similar to the T-Mobile $30 per month unlimited plan?

There's a 300 mb data plan. I think it's $40 per month vs $60 for 2 GB

Time to start beating Verizon at their own plan if they took single line availablity away....OP do you know someone who has Verizon that you TRUST to either jump on their Share Plan or have a friend to jump on your acct and get a Shared plan and split the bill?

When my son got his verizon acct the shared plans were out but he still had an option to get the 450 min plan...I wonder when that changed?

Apparently, if you're an existing customer and it's time to upgrade you can keep 450min and add in 2GB of data for $30.

Please go to At&t and T-Mobile I do not want Verizon to become like there networks. Verizon is so fast now on LTE I want to stay that way please go. lol I don not mind paying extra to have a great network. If only they would fix thier customer service.

buy it at full retail, thats what i did, so far i have used 8-12gb per month. Have no idea what that would have costed me on their screw everyone plan.
