OS3 fixed the speed issues for me, at least for the apps in the dock, or apps setup as complications.

As others have mentioned, it really depends on how you use the watch. It is always going to be faster to pull out your phone and launch a 3rd party app, even on OS3. If you use the watch for notifications, text messages, email, and other default apps the speed is fine.

It's not slow, people are comparing it to their phone. It's suppose to work in tandem, not completely be separate. OS3 changed the loading times of I'd say most of the applications I've used previously. Even when testing my own applications out I've noticed a drastic change in speed and I didn't do much do my coding, if at all. I for one feel AW1 is miles away better then what it was when first released and don't need to upgrade to AW2 just for GPS.. i'm sure there's more speed boost on AW2 but again.. I just don't see the need based on my daily applications. That can clearly change depending on what apps are released in the next 6 months though.

As a AW1 owner, I will not be upgrading either. It would take at least 3 days battery life, redesign, and complete independence from my phone (meaning I could get text, email, etc without my phone). The speed is just fine, and I never try to do too much with my watch.

How to describe the usefulness of the Apple watch.

You know those times when you are waiting on a call but have to take a lengthy bio-break and forget your phone?
Well the Apple Watch saves you from running with your pants down through the house and potentially scaring the neighbors.

The AW is not slow, it's just watchOS 2 that's slow, wOS 3 is much better imo.

I don't know...i do NOT want AW to be independent...because that would eat into battery crazy! And i have to pay extra money every month to carrier for an additional line to family plan. An independent AW means more money out of pocket every month! The trade-off is too much for me...just so i can make calls thru an anemic speaker?! Or read emails thru an abbreviated version on a tiny screen?!

I think adding GPS is nice along with longer battery life. Speed is ALWAYS good to have.

Watch OS3 has improved the speed quite a bit (mostly because of the dock) but it could still be a bit zippier. Some apps take far too long to load to where I end up pulling out my phone, which defeats the purpose of having the Watch.

Hey guys, I'm planning on buying an Apple watch. Of course the upcoming 2nd gen will be better, but rumor has it it has the same design. The GPS is kinda big deal but I don't really run or anything. The current gen is also much cheaper, possibly half the price of the new one if I got a used one. Plus next year it's very likely the watch will be redesigned. Is the current watch really that slow? Ive read some reviews and most say it's not fast enough and apps take long to load, etc. This is a deal breaker if true. If the watch takes longer to load app than getting the phone put of my pocket then there is really no point for me to get one :(

After OS3 update, some little individual things seemed faster, overall things were slower (switching dock, faces, music, etc.)

The answer depends a ton on what you will likely be doing with it. For example, I do not notice a lag in things I do most frequently, like reading notifications, Dark Sky (except when updating a forecast), Apple Pay, Wallet app for travel (Delta tickets), looking at calendar entries, etc. I do not use the Workout app anymore, which is very laggy. Occasionally Hey Siri is slow, but it is not a deal breaker in practical use. And a few other apps are laggy, but they are also very occasional use for me.

I think this is right on. I have a series 0 and almost never notice delays or lags for apps in the doc or are in a complication. While apps not in the doc/complications are slow, I rarely use them. Occasionally there does seem like a lag, but this happens on
any device or computer.

the gen 0 apple watch was beyond slow, i had it for a year and a half, i now have the series 2 and it is lightning fast compared to the Original

So 50% faster got you from "beyond slow" to "lightning fast"? Hmm...

Perhaps the poster thinks because of the 'duel' core chip it is 50% faster. It's not. It's probably about 20% faster than series 0. I tested myself extensively in an Apple Store today. 3.1 actually speeds up the series 0 Watch even more than 3.0. A lot of the dropped frames and lagging (e.g. When you open the weather app from the weather complication then try to scroll immediately with the Digital Crown) have been fixed. Entering the dock now has no delay for me when trying to scroll through the apps there using the Digital Crown or ones finger. I'm not trying to justify my decision not to upgrade to a series 1 or 2, but for the speed gains I have seen, putting aside GPS, waterproofing and brighter display, it's just not worth the extra investment "for me" having bought two series 0 last year and at launch.

That's good to know regarding watchOS 3.1. You mean dual core since cores are not fighting each other in a duel ;)
