Never EVER again. Did it for iphone 4 and it sucked ass. It was like a 14 hour ordeal altogether and they almost screwed me out of getting a phone.

I repeat...sucked ASSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a great time. I kinda wish pre-orders weren't an option so I was forced to camp out. Obviously pre ordering is a lot more convenient, and that's what I do (married with 2 kids), but the 2 times I camped out we're some great times. I would do it again in a heartbeat. But the competitor/geek in me won't allow me to sleep through the pre-order day.

I suggest everyone should try it once. There may be no other products that will come out in our lifetime that would draw this much attention (other than the iPhone 6, 7, etc).

I think preorders should have priority over any Apple Store stock. Because I decided to sleep last Friday and go to work, I get punished with an Oct 5th shipping date.

I had to do this for the iphone v1 and 3G because online ordering wasn't an option. When I got my 4, they had online orders and I used that instead.

Clearly you missed "Tickle Me Elmo." I have stood in line for them all at one time or another. Low priced toys that can be sold for 3-5x cost, brings out the best from our society.

For me, always the thrill of the hunt. Getting in early enough via pre-order for a Friday delivery is good enough for me with this iPhone.

Its all fun, unless you're going to pick up a 16gb, but they only have 64bg models left! Happened to me with the iPad. Completely wasted my time, it sucked!

I did it when the iPhone 4 came out, 13 hours, I don't know man, can you handle it?? the decision is yours muahahahahahah lmaooo :D

If you didn't pre order than waiting on line is your only option unless you don't mind getting your Iphone5 a month from now.

I went to a midnight release for MLB 12 The Show this year and got annoyed with the whole thing after 30 minutes! Never again.

Woke up at 1:55 AM last week, wake PC, press buttons on Verizon site, back to bed at 2:01 AM, delivery on Friday

VS

Wake up at 2-3 AM, go to store, wait in line, wait some more, deal with annoying people, wait some more, maybe get the phone color/size I hoped for, miss work, dead tired for rest of day / night.

Choice was simple for me. I don't view waiting in line as a fun time, ever. Good luck to those venturing out. Hopefully the thugs and other punch worthy folks don't make it too unbearable.

If you could ride a rollercoaster from home in your underpants why the hell would you instead opt to wait in a day long line. Unless you wanted to order the unlocked rollercoaster to use on straight talk, which even still I'll take my chances Friday afternoon.

I had fun waiting in line for the iPhone 4, tho I had a reservation and was guaranteed a phone. Got in line at 7am, got out of the mall by 10:30am. Once was enough for me, the experience was fun. Also they gave out free Krispy Kreme doughnuts and coffee/water bottles to the line so that helped.

This year I was happy to preorder at 3am and have it brought to me at home.

So far I've lined up for the iPhone twice (the 3G and 4).

It was pretty interesting as you basically slowly get to meet the people either in the back or front of you in line.

Bring a chair though, if there is nothing to sit on.

I did it for the iPhone 3G and I'll never do it again as long as pre-ordering is available. Waited in line for 5 hours arghh lol. It was an experience and I got a nice apple bag with the phone on it, but other than that nah not worth it.

Waited 12 hours for the first iPhone in 2007. Waited in line with my 7th grade daughter. It was a great experience. Also waited 2 hours in line this year for the new iPad.

I enjoyed it, but I obviously don't do it for every release.

I think it's a fun experience if you've never had it. I'm glad I did it once (iPhone 3G), but I would never want to do it again

Waking up at 3am and getting my iPhone confirmation was enough excitement for me lol
If you have nothing else to do and you have to have the phone Friday. (otherwise else its 4+weeks) Go for it. You only live once, live it to the fullest!

Is the experience of waiting at apple worth it?

...err, personally I think not. You will never catch me wasting days/hours in a queue for any product that I can easily obtain through ordering on the phone or online in the comfort of my home...gadgets, sneakers/trainers etc

So I've did what I've always done and ordered my iPhone 5 online for an estimated free delivery of Oct 3rd...thats all good with me.

For you all guys going/gone down to wait in line, enjoy your first day launch phones.

You should have sat in your backyard on a milk crate for the last few nights just to get in good form.

Seriously why does anyone wait in line? Place an online order and wait. It's just a phone.
