Check this out. Another slight digression so let me try and make it fit here. If they do go this route (lte on one model and a thinner form factor on another) it could change perception a bit. The lte models would be more tech oriented and the luxury thin versions more like the Tag Heuer connected watch which really does look like a nice timepiece besides the smart capabilities. Maybe less frequent updates so it’s not outdated and even the ability to switch out the insides. Makes a premium price more palatable.

It’s going to be very interesting to see how this space and product evolve over the next couple of years. Frankly I’d buy the tag version over the ceramic and Hermes today, if it ran iOS! There might be room for an even higher end Apple Watch in the 1600 range.

If you guys enjoyed the hodinkee articles give this one a read. Very impressed! I carry a second blackberry (android) anyway just for the hub and keyboard so this is avtually an option way way down the road when I feel like rewarding myself again. Good to have goals. :)

I’d rather spend the money on a real analog watch that won’t be obsolete in a couple years. Maybe automatic with a tourbillon and complications like day night, moon phase, chrono etc. Then the real gold case or expensive leather strap need to last.

You can get third party really good quality leather straps for Apple watches that will More than last the watches life span. But it’s the name and exclusivity you are after and not the quality right?

Tourbillon or Complicate watch are of the leuage. If you compare the watch under $3000 from last two year with Apple Watch. Which brand can compete it? I don't see any watches are collectible ,Tag Heuer , Rado , Mido , Tissot . Watched price over $3000 are not able to compare right now.

For me the strap from Hermes and Apple do excellent job , you can read the review from ablogtowatch.

The watch faces are over valued and not a significant feature to warrant the price. Also, there are plenty of really nice leather bands. Hermes is not the best leather on the world. Its a significant brand much the same as Apple.

The watches are all essentially the same.
The only differences I see:
1) Ceramic case
2) Super expensive leather band
3) Stainless Steel case
4) Sort of a Sapphire Crystal

Lets also not forget that these watches are obsolete fast. If you bought a S0, the introduction of the S2 was a real slap in the face. Now, the S3 is approaching what S0 should have been all along. If you bought each version, as so many apple lovers do, your in for a huge amount of cash. If you bought the top end ones, way more.
So, no I don't think these super expensive versions are worth it.

You seem to have already decided you want one, so buy it.

I agree!

A real movement watch is a luxurious experience. One whose value persists. Apple Watch is just not the same. If you are happy spending for that version I say great cause it makes you happy. But as fast as these are obsolete, I don't feel this is the time to spend that kind of cash.

If you go to Audemars Pigeut , how much for the ceramic version , or maybe Chanel ceramic quartz watch ? It's different story. Apple Watch Edition worth it, I never regret for buying the Apple time piece which stunning design, very smart .
I just buy Apple Watch Series 0 after series 3 launch ,S0 is not obsolete. If you consider Apple Watch is the watch which time telling precise and give notifications on the wrist .
when Rolex change the calibre no one call the old calibre obsolete. is just improve the mechanic , same as Apple Watch .

So for the OP. IMHO Apple Watch are not waste of money , also the Hermes .
It's collectable time piece from Apple brand.

It’s clear that it’s not a must have but it components the iPhone so well. I now find myself leaving my iPhone 8 upstairs while I go about my daily business. To not feel tied to my phone 24/7 is so liberating.

I would buy again in a heartbeat but don’t feel it’s necessary to upgrade yearly.

I have AW2 stainless Hermes with brown leather strap. I’m also a watch collector, have several Omega’s.

I’ll not buy a Hermes edition again. I bought it because honestly I liked the Hermes watch faces. Simple and didn’t look as patently digital as those included with a base line AW. But the straps aren’t all that great in my opinion, the leather ones stain very easily from perspiration and I found myself removing them in favor of a sport band almost immediately. Thus...I paid extra pretty much just for the watchfaces.

I’m skipping the AW3 because I don’t really see the added value for me. I’ll wait a generation.

TL;DR: Not buying a Hermes next time. This is disposable tech, not a collectible watch IMO.

Congrats! It looks great on you!

I have exactly the same combo, plus the indigo swift single tour.

I don't regret one bit that I went with Hermès for S3 and will do it again next year (or maybe in 2 years) :D
