if all you want to do is go on the internet and stuff like that, a clamshell ibook with a airport card, maxed out ram and osx 10.3 will be more than powerful enough

if the iBook clamshell didn't have internet it would probably be useless...

right the internet hasnt changed.. the speed has changed what we can do with it.. and what we can do with it has made the need for speed inevitable...

i think the OP is thinking of a "fast ethernet" switch and thinks that its a different version...

that's practically what I was talking about. I just couldn't find the right word for what I meant at the time...

I absolutely miss my iBook G3 - "IceBook" - I had her all maxed out and it was the highest CPU that Apple put out in that model. I sold it a couple years ago to help pay for a newer Mac. The guy that I sold it to still has it, I am half tempted to see if he'd sell it back to me. I miss it so much, it'd be perfect for writing docs on the go and most general browsing.

Couple pictures of her.

I really enjoyed my white iBook :)

There's a reason these boards are called discussion boards. That means people discuss things, which occasionally goes OFF TOPIC.

iBooks used to get 4 or 5 hours web browsing in the days when many PC laptops don't even work for an hour on battery.

I've got a white iBook G3 that has had no problems after 6 years of use and it still goes.

That guy has been banned. Fake information.

Everyone ignore this thread.

It was made in 2009, and in 2009, i didn't really know much.

The clamshells were cool looking, but now they're really outdated and slow to today's standards.

They were really cool looking. Unfortunately, I do have to agree with your second point. We had one at my school (300MHz, 192MB RAM, 10.3.9) and when I tried to go on YouTube, Safari would crash before the page even finished rendering :(. My friend just bought a lot of 30 from a computer recycling distributor, so I guess some collectors on eBay are getting some decent clamshells. I've seen a lot of them and they are MINT

White ibooks were apple's worst laptops ever. Aside from the actual hardware issues that nearly every single one of them experienced they also smelled really bad, especially if you opened the keyboard up.

A used iBook G3 was my first Mac, I still remember the smell. I thought maybe I forgot to put deodorant on or something. Thankfully I exchanged it to due to another issue and that one didn't smell.

My kid liked playing some old Classic Mac OS games on theirs (broken link removed):

Now, at age 6, they're up to an 867 MHz 12" PowerBook G4. I had bought it brand new in 2003 (before they were born!) but have long since upgraded, so it's theirs now. (I'll have to upgrade them to an Intel soon - too many websites they want to play games on are too slow now.)

Do they have permanent marker on them? It seems just about every clamshell on eBay seems to have marker from schools or maybe even the liquidators.
