Thank you but this does not work for me it just takes me to the app store home screen. Also if I search on the app store for Mojave it does not come up.
Make sure your default web browser is set to Safari and that there are no macOS installer apps anywhere on your internal and mounted external drives.

Another method which does work, just tried it myself before making this post...
download and run DosDude's patcher for Mojave,
and from the Tools menus select download Mojave.
This wil get you a virgin copy of the Mojave installation file which you can use to install Mojave, no need for any patches if you are installing on to a supported system.
Can this be used to install Mojave on a new iMac that comes with Catalina already installed?
I'm holding off updating my 2012 iMacs until I can avoid Catalina. Mojave does everything I need, but I would really like to download the Swift Playgrounds app, but the app store insists you must have Catalina to use it on a Mac.
I guess I'm stuck with using it on my iPads.

Apple used to enforce a rule where you could not install a System older then what shipped on your new mac.
I have no idea if this is still the case, as it's been some time since I've purchased a new mac.

YOu only get downloads in the store related to the OS and perhaps he newest, not older..

For eg.. you'd get "Item not available" but only on Mojave but if your trying to download older ones you need older OS.

I fix this, by running an old installer in a VM, that wayiget all installers from 10.6.

Mojave does not have the graphics drivers in it to support your new iMac.

I don't think that graphics drivers would be the issue if you bought a current gen iMac as the were originally released before catalina came out.

The iMacs in currently in stores may come with catalina now but iMacs with identical hardware ran Mojave. So Mojave clearly has the graphics drivers for these iMacs

All iMacs sold today have been on the market for more than a year. They shipped with 10.14.4, so they'll all run Mojave just fine.

Mojave will work fine on the 2019 iMac which is what's sold now.

Okay that makes sense. I never thought of it that way.

But is it possible to replace the preinstalled Catalina with Mojave?
