Screens have many other qualities other than pixel density that affect how viewable they are. Brightnesss, contrast, color quality, glare, viewable angle, etc, etc. So I don't think looking at another tablet or laptop screen with a similar pixel density is very helpful in getting an idea of whether or not an iPad screen might work for you. It's just one of those things where you have to try it for yourself. Even if a forumfull of posters say it works for them, there's a chance that it doesn't work for you, and vice versa.

Not exactly. The question was "is the iPad display bad?" The OP wanted to know how much the resolution affected the screen overall. So looking at a random laptop screen with the same resolution as an iPad isn't going to help, because resolution is just one out of a bunch of factors that affect overall screen quality.
