I sat on an airplane yesterday next to a woman with an iPad 2. We were both watching movies on our iPad's, but I was watching some episodes of Game of Thrones I'd converted from 1080p captures. She kept looking over at my screen while the episode was playing and finally just turned off her iPad 2 and said "I can't even look at mine after seeing how much better the 3 screen looks." I agreed and we spent the rest of the flight with her looking at all the Retina-improved apps on my iPad that she was accustomed to on her own. Flight had wifi so we even surfed a bit.

Its really all about the marvelous screen. Once you've become accustomed to Retina you'll never want the downgraded experience ever again.

I have a galaxy tab too and compared to the iPad it is laggy. It's true the iPad 3 has some quality issues but in spite of that it's a much better and more versitile device. It's muc more expensive too. You can get a tab for less than £300.

How many did you end up returning before you were satisfied with the screen? ... was it 7 or 8?

Yes. The new iPad really broke my experience using almost any other device in terms of screen goodness.
Is really amazing.

Hi guys,

i have been saving to buy the new iPad (3rd gen) for a while and i'm only a bit away from having enough money.
however,while looking up reviews on youtube and on tech blogs,i have come across a scarily high number of bad reviews regarding the new iPad.some of them include;

-overheating
-ridiculous time it takes to fully charge the battery (and some more battery issues)
and a lot more issues.

i play a lot of HD,big sized games (in terms of space) and surf the web and watch a lot of videos so i'm very worried about looking at all the cons people come across with the new iPad.

my friend who owns a samsung galaxy tablet told me its better than the iPad 3 because its got way more features and freedom and the price is significantly cheaper than the iPad 3.

i do not have money to gamble so i want to be sure if its worth going for the iPad 3.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

IMHO it's all Alarmist FUD.

There are several going on right now. Some showing exactly what to look for by adjusting saturation levels in photoshop showing tint of the photo they just took of their iPad screen with a camera. One guy has taken over 25 iPads back to the store. Is this abuse of apple's return policy?

and a lot more issues.

Please explain.

By the way, if you plan on playing HD games as you say, the Samsung 3 will give you significantly more problems than the iPad.

Plus, you are asking on an apple forum, almost all responses will be pro apple, on a Samsung forum they will be pro Samsung obviously.

LOL... and to the same person "Stalking" me with negative ratings the second I push enter, get a life (it is funny tho)!

Are you implying that I am Stalking you? :D

The new iPad is not a miracle device. Don't believe the hype!

Here are the things nobody is talking about.

Yes, it takes a lo-o-o-ng time to charge. My Macbook Pro laptop charges in half the time it takes to charge the new iPad which, for a consumer electronics device, is crazy insane. If you run out of charge during the day then you can forget about using your iPad unless you want to ruin the battery by charging it for an hour so it isn't completely charged. Apple should have designed a new charging system for such a large battery.

The new iPad is heavy. Much heavier than you might think if you haven't already experienced an iPad. Put it this way -- I have a thick hardback book here. It tires out my arms and hands to hold it while reading. The iPad is HEAVIER than this, especially when you add in the weight of a smart cover.

If you play full-on 3D games and watch HD movies then 16GB storage is a joke. The minimum storage Apple should offer should be 32GB, and then they should add a warning that this might not be enough of intensive users.

On the plus side:

It doesn't get warm unless you pay full-on 3D games (i.e. 3D arcade games). It doesn't get any warmer than any other computing device when doing everyday tasks, such as web browsing.

To be honest, if you're not committed yet to buying an iPad, I'd wait until the iPad 4 sometime next year. This will very likely fix all the issues mentioned above. The iPad 3 is a technology transition device -- it contains lots of cool new stuff, but the product design hasn't been modified to match.

The iPad 2 is cheaper and still a powerful tablet, and will do you well until the iPad 4 arrives.

Oh, and do be careful of what people say here. They speak with forked tongue. They're fans of Apple and can't bear to hear a bad word said about Apple. Doesn't mean they're right or wrong, but it does mean you should think critically when reading replies.

Charging for just an hour will not ruin the battery. Do that kind of thing all the time to my devices. did not see any battery loss over the two years with the iPad 1.

Not sure how long it takes to charge, because I usually charge mine at night. But, one of the times I didn't, the mophie battery I have, charged it about 25% while I was using it in about an hour. So not sure that I agree that it takes too long to charge, but your mileage may vary.

+1 on the above.

I will wait for iPad 4.
I haven't seen anything on the iPad3 I can't do on my iPad 2

That's an awesome story. :)

----------

iPad 3 issues

Overheating = overblown. iPad 3 gets warm, not hot.

Thickness = non-issue. I cannot honestly tell the difference in side-by-side

Weight = barely heavier. Maybe an issue if you hold the iPad 3 while watching a 2hr movie.

Tinting = depends. I think most are being OCD. But if you feel you got a bad one, return it.

Battery life = slightly worse. Sad for early adopters if Apple upgrades CPU from 45nm to 32nm. And uses IGZO screen instead of AS. AS is huge battery hog.

Charging = longer. iPad 3 has 70% larger battery but uses same 10w/2a charger. Filling 70% larger bucket (battery) with same 2amp hose.

Wifi connectivity = sporadic. Will probably be fixed in iOS update.

Also people are acting like the new iPad is crap and that the iPad 2 didn't have any issues. But if you look at posts from when the iPad 2 came out you'll see complaints about the battery, WiFi issues, yellow screens, dead pixels, etc. Same with the original iPad. All electronic devices are going to have some issues.

I love me iPad 3 and I believe the screen is really awesome, but for many people this isn't enough and they don't really see the big difference. I had such reactions from quite a few people. I don't really understand them, but it shows that the screen alone isn't enough for some people...
As far as the getting hot issue, there are some games where my iPad does get hot. It is still ok though.

Didn't you get the memo that the yellow tinting is caused by glue which isn't completely dried out yet and will resolve itself?

And it's not 'overheating' at 95F after 8 hours of Infinity Blade 2. 95F is less than the body temperature of a human. Put your hand on your forehead: That's how hot the iPad 3 gets after hours under full load.

...Yes, it takes a lo-o-o-ng time to charge...

No, it does not. If it takes longer than my iPad 1, it's certainly not a significant difference. I think people are standing over the thing timing it with a sundial just so they can bitch about charging times. Mine even charges fine while using it.

The new iPad is heavy. Much heavier than you might think if you haven't already experienced an iPad...

It's .11 ounces heavier than an iPad 2, which NOBODY, or pretty much nobody, said was too heavy, and it's still lighter than an iPad 1.

...Oh, and do be careful of what people say here. They speak with forked tongue...

Forked tongues like taking issues that aren't issues and using them as an excuse to discourage someone from buying the iPad 3, or forked tongues like someone stupid enough to come to a website dedicated to Apple products and calling them names for loving Apple products??? The new iPad certainly doesn't walk on water, but it's not a piece of garbage or some sort of bug-riddled "transitional tech" either. It's a great device, probably the best of the tablet devices, and none of your points are remotely valid reasons not to consider buying it.

You're aware that the battery in the new iPad is almost twice the size of that in older iPads? So it takes longer to charge?

It takes about six hours to charge fully according to most tests (to get the true 100% charge, rather than what the iPad reports). That's far, far too long. It should be two hours, max.

I am very aware the battery is larger. Think the old battery took about 4 hours to charge. Doesn't surprise me the new one takes longer. But as I said, real world not a test, mine charged about 25% in an hour while using it. So it probably slows down as it gets to the end.

If it takes 6 hours, it doesn't bother me. As I stated usually charge overnight. Also have a small external battery that will charge the iPad as well as other stuff if needed.

Most electronics that only take a couple hours to charge, only get about 3-5 hours. The iPad gets about 10 hours. Seems about right to me for the charge time for the battery. Would rather have the larger battery and 10 hours, than faster charge time. The 10 hours is the important factor here for me, not the charge time which doesn't affect me, since it usually charges during a time I am not using it.

2 hours max? No tablet at the iPads price range has that speed.

I charge while sleeping, simple as that. Even gaming all day, the only times I run out of battery is when I forget to plug it in.

By taking the screen brightness down between 50-70% it has really helped the overheating and battery life for me. I was really annoyed about it at first but 100% screen brightness is too much unless you are outside in the glaring sun.

Your not exactly selling a human organ for the iPad 3. If you have the cash and the desire for a tablet your best options are iPad 2 or 3. Considering the iPad 2 only comes in at 16gb if you want a higher capacity model go for iPad 3.

Worse case scenario, iPad 3 turns out to be the biggest steaming pile of bs, go give it back, get a full refund within 14 days and don't look back.

Why so much drama is beyond me, you make it sound like some kind of life changing decision. Buy it, try it,if you don't like it, give it back and walk away with a full refund.
