It should be. If not, get the T-Mobile version if they make you pick a carrier. It should be sim unlocked if it's anything like the iPhone.

The iPad is very different then the iPhone. The iPads come with Apple Sim which allows you to go to any carrier in the US and over seas.

That's what I said: no iPads are SIM locked. That applies to the Pro too.

My apologies I read it wrong. But if you look at your response to original post you can see why I made a mistake based on how you wrote your reply.

That's only an issue if you assume my grammar was incorrect. In any case, the question is answered.

yes you can use any data plans from any carriers with any ipad that is wifi+cellular
it was never locked on a specific carrier ever

That's right. The iPad cannot make or receive regular telephone calls.

it can if you have an iPhone on your iCloud account and you use wifi calling with a supported carrier
or if theres an iPhone nearby on the same wifi network

the only thing you have to remember about iPads is you can put an ipad sim in an iPhone but you can't put an iPhone sim in an ipad. it just won't work.

Thanks. Do all these restrictions hold in countries other than the US?

If I cannot make/receive phone calls, perhaps I keep my Galaxy Note PRO 12.2 It has a stylus and I can make/receive phone calls.

yeah its the same for other countries, the ipad just can't be used for making voice calls. and if you try to put a sim from a phone in it, web pages won't load. the ipad wants a data only sim

its not a country restriction, its just the way they are

you can use other voip services to make calls on the ipad like google hangouts, Skype, etc

if you have an iPhone you should be able to make cellular calls on the ipad because it borrows it

with your ipad you can call facetime audio anytime anywhere you have 3g/4g signal anyperson using an idevice or through skype etc
or you can make normal calls if your iphne is nearby

I put my Verizon iPhone SIM into my iPad all the time! It works just fine. I also put my tmobile iPad SIM into my Verizon iPhone and that also works just fine.

if i put a t-mobile iPhone sim in an ipad , it won't work. whenever i go to any web site, it redirects me to
mim-t-mobile.com, which is the prepaid landing page for t-mobile ipad plans. perhaps your verizon sim is different

I am not in the US. Do you think I will have the same issue?

This is a T-Mobile issue..not an all carrier issue. Ugh..I can't stand all of this misinformation.

cell phone carriers perceive your ipad with its bigger screen will generate more data charges then phones with smaller screens, and this is why some carriers like t-mobile do not want you putting voice sims in ipads.

i have owned iPads dating back to the original cellular ipad. i never in my life have owned a wifi only ipad. and this is not the first time i could not put a voice sim in an ipad. perhaps the cellular companies are more flexible now , and i didn't get the memo
