and the GPS?

That is what Apple claims. My experience has been anything but. On my 1st gen iPhone I would typically get around 6 hours until the 20 percent warning. This was with talking, fairly heavy internet use via Wi-Fi, and and considerable amount of video watching (movies). My 3G will, at very best, last until 5 hours...total shut down.

I am seeing roughly a 1 to 1.5 hour discrepancy between the two. I'm not happy about it either.

At the risk of being flamed let me ask an obvious question. Do you leave GPS on? Heavy GPS usage *kills* battery life faster than 3G IMHE--which has been pointed out once already here. But the other thing to consider about the GPS is what program you leave running when the iPhone goes into sleep. I cannot officially confirm this but my experience is that if I run maps with location services running, the GPS chip continues to draw insane amounts of power even in sleep.

In some ways this is cool--when you turn the phone back on it knows exactly where you are--but it has meant quickly losing battery life without realizing it on several other occasions.

I admit the battery life is frustrating, but only because I have quickly become more dependent on this device than any other "phone" I have had in the past.

Hi Guys...

To answer your questions regarding GPS being turned off...yes. I have GPS, 3G, Push, Pull, Tug, Tow and everything else...turned off.

I am really dissapointed with the battery life on this phone. I am even actively searching for a nice 16gb v1 iPhone with 1.1.4 still installed. I tried my hardest to come within even an hour of Apple's posted battery life times and failed.

I was like what the heck today when I found my iPhone dead today. I forgot to charge it over night before, so when I left for work it was about half capacity.

I figure that's enough for the day, just don't do heavy use. But it still died after 7 hours. I think all I did was rearrange icons and play 2-3 minutes of Papijump, which accidentally launched Safari for a few seconds. Didn't even make a phone call today, video, or music. Yet it died. 3G was on, Push was on.

But man, it took a sudden unexpected dip while it was sitting there. I mean when I last used it, possibly 5-6 hours before I found it dead, it was still slightly less than half, or I can atleast recall no warnings. All I was doing was testing the home button to make my post about it not working half the time here around 6 and half hours ago. So some how it died 5-6 hours while it was sleeping before any 20% warning.

iPhone 3G with 1600mah Battery

i bought this 1600mah iPhone 3G/3GS Battery for my iphone
from ebay under $3.00 us dollars straight from the sources China
This Battery I'm Expecting To Get About An Hour Or 2 More Of Battery Life Capacity Then The Original Battery After Every Full Charge . So Basically I Think I'll Be Getting Maybe 5-8 Hours Talk Time Not For Sure I'll Have To Wait Until I Receive The Battery And Install It Along With Some Third Party Software To See How The New Battery Does I'll Probably Do About A Week Of Testing Then I'll Let You Guy's Know How It Does Compare To The Original Battery

Based on EDGE experience only, my iPhone 3G gets battery life than the 2G using the latest software 4.2.1. However, I wouldn't be surprised if the 3G killed the 3G quite a bit.

iPhone 4 was the revolution in battery life apparently.
