Why would you pay top dollar for 2 year old tech ?
Wait for iPhone 5s/6 or go for S4/One.

I recently sold my iPhone 4S 64GB and got the S4. Sure, it is a little laggy here and there but not bad at all. Plus, Samsung will be releasing stock Android firmware soon (announced at Google I/O). The phone is packed with the best screen I have seen on a mobile device and the latest hardware which will at least last two iterations of Android. I got all this for 100bucks more than the iPhone 4S 16GB!

The stock firmware is only for the Google Play edition Samsung Galaxy S4 bought separately. Unless you were going to root it.

Yes. Apparently, the S4 got a firmware update and things smoothened out. I would not know cause I switched over to the HTC One sometime ago and after using it for sometime, I can confidently say that the only feature I miss in this phone is Airplay...everything else is just so much better, convenient...

Yeah Airplay seems like a trivial thing until you actually use it. It's quite amazing and I like to AirPlay TV Shows to my tv.

Wait for the 5S

I have a factory unlocked 64GB 4S and I love it. However, I bought mine in late 2011. It's almost two years old now. The iPhone 5S will be out soon and may likely be faster with a newer LTE chip set. Two years from now, your iPhone 4S may be slow compared to the 5S due to a newer iOS, newer apps, and more bandwidth-demanding websites. Furthermore, more cell phone companies will be implementing LTE at even faster speeds, and the 4S will never be able to use LTE. I'd wait for the 5S. Sure, the 4S might be still great right now, but you'd be getting less value for your money if you're still planning to use the phone in two years from now.

Any 64gb iPhone is not worth buying.

Paying $200 more for simply an extra 48gb of storage is a terrible choice for anybody.

Not really I have a 64GB 4S and my dad has a 64GB 5 and the space is pretty useful so I wouldn't say it's a terrible choice for anybody.

Well I am glad you are able to sum up everyone's needs in just one sentence. I mean, it stands to reason that nobody needs more than 16GB of storage on their phones, right?

Paying an extra 100% more than the subsidized price of an iPhone ($200 vs $400) for 48gb I storage is basically a waste for almost everyone.

The only reason people make this bad financial decision is for the convenience of storing more junk on their phone when they could easily just manage their music, apps, videos in about 20 seconds via iTunes on their computer

Makes no financial sense at all but hey, Apple loves customers willing to throw away more $$$ :D

That's not really an issue if you live in the UK as there is currently only one carrier with an LTE network. Others area launching by the end of the year, but It will be a long time until they become popular (due to the premium price and poor data packages). Only one network has said they intend to upgrade their customers with 4G at no extra cost and with unlimited data plans. I'm on 3 UK who use HSPA+ and I get speeds of around 8-10mb/s. Good enough for me.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend buying a 4S at this time.

Not only is it 2-year old tech, it may only be supported to iOS 8. With the 5(S), you get LTE, much faster processor, more RAM, similar design, bigger screen, and possibly other goodies like fingerprint sensor in the 5S.

Not only that, but you'll be set for iOS 10 should you wish to keep it that long.

Just my 2c.

I wouldn't recommend going for android phones. They are almost unusable because of lag. You can clearly feel the difference when using iPhone 5 and S4 for example, at least 500-1000ms when opening apps. Not to mention the screen size is impractical for daily use.

Let's just say it may be a waste for you but for some it may be worth it. If I'm willing to pay $400 for a 64 GB then it's not a wrong, only a decision I made that I haven't regret. As long as one hasn't regret a decision that's all that matters. :)

As for OP, sounds like you'll be better off waiting for the next iPhone if you can wait. I would recommend at least the 32 GB (hopefully that'll replace the 16 GB) since Apps and Videos have gotten quite big ( not an issue if you're not into them too much).

Both phones with 16Gb total capacity (no expandable storage and Android takes up a few gigs on its own!)

The HTC One comes with a MINIMUM of 32gb. Something Apple and other OEMs should take a clue from.

How many modern flagships have you owned in the past year? Didn't think so. This isn't 2009 anymore. My Nexus 4 is smoother than my iPad mini, 5th gen touch, 4S and just as smooth, if not smoother still my iPhone 5. Don't spew crap. Unusable? Please. The performance difference has been moot for a while now and shouldn't even be a talking point no matter which OS is your favorite.

I think he was being sarcastic about android devices, s/he was responding to someone but didn't quote the person.

I would have said yes if you're a heavy music & video user until iTunes Match came out. Now if you're value conscious you can just pay $20 each year and have your whole library on a 16GB device, assuming regular access to WiFi or 3G / 4G is an option. The storage requirements for my favorite and most used apps haven't ballooned to the point where I need anything more than the entry level capacity yet.

Wow you honestly have no idea what you talking about . I'll admit fluidity goes to iOS but android is not laggy by any means and the s4 touch wiz interface was rushed on the s4 that is why the update has literally fixed any lag issues that it had. Ever since 4.1 and up android has been very close to smooth and fluid as iOS is. My htc one and my iPhone 5 feel no different except maybe for speed of transitions, and size is impractical for day to day use really! 4.7 and 5" is pretty much the sweet spot for a lot of people andIi mean a lot of people just as 4" is for others. I have had no problem with my sgs4 or my htc one on day to day use and my iPhone 5 is great as well and to be honest I will take a 1080p screen over the iPhone resolution anyday. But I'm not a spec junkie and like both platforms. But please don't try to down play android considering how far it has come in the last few years, and this is by NO! means a pissing contest that I'm looking to start I'm just trying to get facts straight.
