No, it's not a bargain. The iPhone SE is a bargain. The iPhone X at $1100 is anything but a bargain.

Jheeze Louise 😵 no, it's not a bargain. That's like asking if a Ferrari is a bargain. Once again: no, it is not. There are cheaper phones out there that can do most of what the X does, minus FaceID and Animojis 🙂rolleyes🙂.
For some (who don't want to pay the price) it isn't. For others, it is a bargain (even at the same price). It is all relative.

If you fire up your time machine and travel back to 1991, the iPhone X replaces all these items, which cost $3K in 1991 and would be $5K in 2017 dollars. What a bargain!

But it's not 1991. It's not a bargain in 2017.

Except that if you want to use 2017 dollars, those individual items would probably only cost 500 dollars if that. You're comparison is flawed because your measuring 26 year old technology with current hi tech.

Why not say that its a bargain because the iPhone X replaces this which cost 253,000

See seems kind of silly to measure the iPhone x current high tech with the cost of high tech from yesteryear

There is nothing about the X that suggests it’s a bargain. As smartphones go it’s quite expensive and does the same thing as a device hundreds of pounds cheaper. It’s just the nicest looking iPhone currently on sale, but it’s far from cheap. Even the iPhone 8 has a premium price but I suppose you could say it’s a better deal seeing as it’s essentially the same phone minus the screen, FaceID and slightly better camera.

Hi,

After two weeks of using this device for work and play I feel that the amount of technology in this device packs the power of a laptop in your palm.

I have used 3g, 4s, 5s, 6s+ and this is the first phone that has so much power and memory and speed that I can now do things for work that I dreamed of since the 3g.

I cannot believe I can process 36 megapixel images with the RAW POWER APP. I can also transfer images wirlessly using Cascable app. I usually use the Macbook 12" for processing many files and I have to say the X processes the files at similiar speeds.

I was shooting news video of a blazing fire that took down half a block. The new image stabilized telephoto is rock solid and I was able to edit/render a video with 6-8 clips using Videoleap very quickly. I was really amazed at how fast the 1080p render was. I also like shooting 4k/24-60

FaceID is great for authentication with banking and other apps.

I got the RAvPOWER fast charging pad. Plugging in a cable to charge is so annoying especially because I grab the phone from the ravpower so many times a day. Great feature.

There are other things I discover daily about this phone and I continue to be surprised.

Can't wait for X+.
Why does it feel like you are just posting this to promote apps and a charging pad

Lmao I can build a full fledged gaming PC for the price of a tricked out X. It's nowhere close to being a bargain.

Not quite sure if that would fit in your pocket or whether you could take that on a plane though!

Actually its dead on.

Using your logic, a Ferrari is a bargain because of all the great features.

Yes, the iPhone X has some great features, but its priced at a premium, there's no dancing around that. You need to do logical gymnastics to try to justify the position that the X is a bargain at 1,000 dollars.

Well, in all fairness, I bought a camcorder a few years ago at that price and the camera on the iPhone X is better than the camcorder PLUS I had to buy extra batteries & a light PLUS the iPhone does 100 other things too, so with that OLED screen and built quality & design it's quite a bargain when compared to stuff from a few years back!

Returned it, at $200 cheaper the 8 plus is the better bargain as far as I am concerned.

The UI on the X is not preferable to me. Guess because I have used iPhones long enough and had no problem with it.

But the Plus looks so damn fat and old now. I always hated the Plus design and the X has shown how terrible the Plus really is.

MacBook Pro still has headphone jack, USB-C, and much more RAM. Has VLC Player and MP4 converter. Has $300 Final Cut Pro.

Does an iPhone have drag and drop into folders yet without the need for iTunes? Can an iPhone recognize an external hard drive? Can you open a bunch of tabs while YouTube is playing? Does it have Transmission for torrents? How about split-view or PiP?

If X has less RAM than an iPad Pro and can't do split-view and PiP, then it's no bargain. Hard to believe an iPad still has headphone jack.
I agree and I got my iPad Pro 128gb and a 7 Plus 128gb for less than the price of the X. 😉

I know but I just did not feel comfortable at this point with apps not being optimized, the extra money, the notch, the screen not absolutely blowing away the Plus, etc etc.

Depends how much money you make, it’s a bargin for me.
You could be Bill Gates and it wouldn't make the iPhone X a bargain. The dictionary that comes with macOS at least defines a bargain as a thing bought or offered for sale more cheaply than is usual or expected. I don't see why you would have had the expectation that the iPhone X be sold at an even higher price than it is. It is certainly not sold at an unusually low price.

Not that it's in any way relevant.. but are you going to write a novel or develop the next app on that gaming mobile that fits in the pocket?

I don't necessarily wanna go down that route.. Different devices for completely different purposes. Will you take a call on your PC from any location, or be able to capture thousands of pictures of your next vacation? Will you be able to stay mostly connected and capable wherever you go with a device weighing just a few grams in your pocket?

It does a hell of a lot more than the iPhone X that's for sure. The iPhone 8 does everything the X does at half the price so how is it a bargain again?

Not that it's relevant but does your iPhone X last 4 to 5 years without any hint of slowdown like my PC ?

Honestly both of you, I don't mean to pick a fight. How is PC vs iPhone even a thing? It's not like you have one or the other. Sure, the things that bring the iPhone's cost up aren't what you'd call "core functions", but most people who buy a Ferrari rarely ever drive the thing on a track at 200km/h+, yet still enjoy it.

so you're saying there are worse phones that cost less?

I think the Ferrari comparison came about because it’s a nice looking car, fast and exciting, but you can get cars that match it’s performance and are more more reliable for less.

That’s true certainly with phones. The real world performance between most current flagships is identical. As consumers we are just picking whatever phone looks pretty and justifying why we think it’s better than another. They all do the same thing really, especially if you have an iPhone.
