Apple Intelligence as described at the latest apple event sounds promising. Im confused if the latest m4 ipad pro is ready to take advantage of this software feature and is compatible?

If the iPP M4 cannot cope with Apple Intelligence with Apples flagship M Processor that is not even available on Macs yet, then non of Apples devices can either!

yeah well..first it needs iOS 18 (for those of us that didn't update in the hours after it was first released). Crazy that its still not available

If it isn't, what the heck is?!

But seriously, everything with an M-series chip is supposed to be able to run it, which means devices released as far back as 2020.

As others said, it is compatible.

Since Apple Intelligence still hasn’t been released and will be getting released well into next year. It isn’t clear how well the new iPad with M4 chips will age. Based on historical iPad realities they should be ridiculously over the top and last a long time. But since we lack a crystal ball we can’t yet predict how Apple will update its AI offering over time or if those updates will be meaningful to us users.

Apple has a very good track record of software locks to block new features on otherwise capable hardware. If AI becomes a successful way to drive sales. I’d expect similar software locks to artificially drive sales.

Recent examples: for iPad was the “hover” pencil support. for iPhone the ability to tweak photo style in the camera app using the new “touchpad” and other “photographic styles” tweaks limited to 16 models.

The M4 is Apples flagship tablet. It was mentioned several times during the presentation that the M4 was built for Apple Intelligence. While the M1 and above will support APIN, the M4 will be the fastest and most responsive due to the beefed up neural engine.

iOS & iPadOS 18 launched on Sep 16. It is now Oct 2 and iPadOS 18 is still pulled after bricking a ton of new flagship M4 iPads. Tim Apple.
