I was thinking about the iPhone 16. Can play AAA games with the A18 chip and 8GB RAM. It has wonderful colors. Although its camera is not as good as the pros, it is very advanced. Not everyone may want pro models. Personally, my first choice would be the pros. But in some places these phones are not easy to access and not everyone wants a phone to do professional work.

But it has a 60hz screen. It's not the end of the world and there is an alternative for those who want it, yes! Let's continue with the rest people. If this phone's screen was 120hz or at worst 90hz, it could be one of the best phones on the market in terms of price performance, maybe the best. Let's look at this from both sides.

If this happened, people would be happy; Because those who had old base models would buy the iPhone 16 with enthusiasm. Because there are more serious innovations compared to previous models and they knew that they would have a better screen experience with a better screen refresh rate.

Any Android user looking to buy a new phone would also prioritize the iPhone 16. Because you know that even the cheapest Android phones have 90hz at worst.

On the other hand, only those who will use the iPhone 16 Pro for professional work would buy it. Its luxury product status would continue. But... I don't know. Saving features that are no longer considered pro only to the pro model seems like unconsciousness and market cheating to me. Won't be able to make an extra $200 profit for almost the same thing.

Only Apple can do this. :)

Apple's iPhone has been just pro model since 2017. I think they should only release one model. Just like before.

I know, some people like the refresh rate that has been used for 17 years and may see the 120hz screen as just a luxury feature; Just like a mobile camera can shoot video.

I just want people in all circumstances to have access to technology that is now a cliché. Especially if he's paying $800. In countries like Türkiye, it is 1900 dollars. But hey, Apple will do this 1 year later. Applause.

I think the next iPhone 17 will come standard with 120 hz
I don't know. Although there is a high probability of doing so, Apple does not care and this feature may not come to 17 after millions of people who do not know what Hz and new technologies are buy the base model.

This is why television boxes are covered with nonsensical specifications and made up trademarked names for whatever technology on the outside. People see a number and think oh that number is higher so it must be better. I want my TV with a 4000 giga joules flux capacitor with phase plasma interlink display.

It’s kind of like when the iPhone XR came out with a 720 P display and clickbait YouTube channels were all over it. Someone made a set up when you couldn’t see what phone it was and put a 4K android phone and 720P iPhone next to each other and most people picked the iPhone.

If you’re not sure, just look at the phone in the Apple Store or major electronics retailer and see for yourself. I’m using an iPhone Pro Max with 120 Hz display but honestly it doesn’t look any better or worse to me than the iPhone with a 60 Hz display. Maybe that’s just my eyes but for me it’s a non-issue. If you’re like wow that looks so much better then buy it but if it’s hard to tell the difference, maybe not.

If the 16 had 120 Hz I would buy it instead of the 16 Pro.
According to Apple site the normal 16 has a lot less battery life compared to 16 Pro. Beside the 120hz that alone was a reason for me to go for a Pro. But my main priority is battery and a small comfy phone. 😂

I think it depends on the person. I have the 15 pro and my wife has the 15 and the different is noticeable as soon as I do anything on her phone. The biggest difference is text while scrolling. It gets extremely blurry on the 60hz screen even when scrolling very slowly. That’s my biggest problem because I like to read while scrolling on my pro. It gives me a headache to try to do that on the 60hz screen. Now if she picks up my 15 pro she has no idea the screen is different so it makes no difference to her.

I agree with others, I would get the standard 16 if it had 120hz but I’ll stick with my 15pro this year. I like the lighter weight of my wife’s 15 and I honestly can’t tell the difference between our photos in our shared library. The only thing keeping me on the pro is 120hz.

my understanding is that Low Power Mode puts a Pro phone onto 60hz mode? - checking now I absolutely cannot see the difference with it toggled on/off, scrolling up & down the long Settings menu.

like a friend of mine says about his TV, "I no longer have 4K eyes" ...

I'd imagine as soon as the base phone gets 120Hz, the 'pro' will get either a 144 or 240hz panel to compensate. they need the nudge to the higher spec device, otherwise they cannibalise sales

I agree you. It would be acceptable when base model is 120hz. It would be great when Pro model is 240hz.

Strange. Have you ever quickly swiped down a page on the web or in X, especially in dark mode?

If the standard 17 has it I will get that one. The only reason I chose the Pro was for the AOD and ProMotion. The extra camera features are nice, but I don’t care that much.

I have a 13 Pro & love the 120hz. Most noticeable when scrolling and reading. Can’t get a regular 16 as it lacks this feature and not convinced there is enough in the 16 Pro to warrant an upgrade for the cost. Especially with only 8GB memory which might struggle in the next few years. (Most LLM AI models are between 2Gb and 10GB now and growing). Mini versions for phones ?… hmmm. Look what happened to the 15.
Will wait now for the 17 or switch maybe. All depends on whether I choose to upgrade my watch instead.

  • 16 Pro has the A18 Pro chip which has larger caches and a 6 core GPU instead of 5 cores.
  • 16 Pro has a slightly larger battery and longer battery runtime.
  • 16 Pro has a slightly larger screen at 6.3" vs 6.1".
  • 16 Pro has USB 3.2 Gen 2 controller capable of 10 Gb/s vs USB 2 at 480mb/s.

Yes. Like millions people. But Apple wouldn't like this.
Honestly their margins are close they don’t really care. The services are where Apple wants to get you. Throwing a 48mp camera makes you upgrade your iCloud.

Apple’s trick is your AI using their servers. Not everything is on the phone.

Same here. I can see the difference on an iPad Pro vs iPad Air, but really can't tell any meaningful difference on the iPhones.

My guess is that Apple will bring an LTPO display to the regular iPhone next year, but will only enable 1-60 Hz, or maybe 1-75 or 90 Hz if we're lucky. There have been comments in mainstream reviews about the 60 Hz display for years and that hasn't swayed Apple.
