I doubt there are millions monitoring Apple’s screens’ refresh rate. I bet most have no idea it means, nor what their own device has.
True. Not everyone is technology crazy like us.

Same here. I can see the difference on an iPad Pro vs iPad Air, but really can't tell any meaningful difference on the iPhones.

My guess is that Apple will bring an LTPO display to the regular iPhone next year, but will only enable 1-60 Hz, or maybe 1-75 or 90 Hz if we're lucky. There have been comments in mainstream reviews about the 60 Hz display for years and that hasn't swayed Apple.
There have been quite a few articles on MR stating that the regular 17 series will get full Promotion 120 hz VRR screens next year.

Focusing on the title of this thread:

iPhone 16/Plus Is the only thing missing a 120hz display?

Apple carefully tries to put pricing points to upsell to the next pricing point. (eg, selling a laptop with 8GB knowing it's most likely many know that 16GB or greater is the minimum they should go after).

I've ended up going with "regular" iPhone 16 after days of comparing 15 Pro, 16, 16 Pro (with 256GB).

So what are the "major" differences:
- Display (0.2" bigger, always-on, 120HZ)
- Camera (LiDAR, telescopic lens/x5 zoom mostly)
- Camera features (4k@240fps slo-mo, support ProRes/RAW - professional photo and video capturing formats better suitable for color grading and professional workflows)

So what are the "minor" differences:
- SoC with one more GPU and additional codecs, mostly needed for Pro camera usage and true gamers
- Additional supported GPS networks
- Aluminium body (though most people got cases and the weight ends being very minor imho)
- "studio quality" microphones

I've ended with iPhone 16 after looking at them side by side and scrolling. the extra screen refresh rate noticeable (I enjoy it on the MBP 14 and I have an iPad Pro but didn't feel it was dramatic for a daily driver especially coming from SE2020). The cameras are fine already and capturing family moments I didn't see the extra camera capabilities something I need.

my understanding is that Low Power Mode puts a Pro phone onto 60hz mode? - checking now I absolutely cannot see the difference with it toggled on/off, scrolling up & down the long Settings menu.

like a friend of mine says about his TV, "I no longer have 4K eyes" ...
Exactly. I see no difference between the two and 60hz saves a ton of battery life. I have a regular 16 pro model 512gb. On low battery mode 24/7.
i went with the 6.3 model because 6.9 inch is too big to be held one handed.

6.3 is too small for me so going with the 16 plus black at 512gb. 6.7 inch is a good compromis.

You already switched from 16 pro to the 16+? The plus is a great device.

There have been quite a few articles on MR stating that the regular 17 series will get full Promotion 120 hz VRR screens next year.
And all of those articles are rumors and speculation. There have been no official announcements concerning iPhone 17. Reading the rumors are entertaining but they are just people guessing, not facts

for me prores/log recording video to 4tb external ssd is a huge game changer. something 16/16+ cant do.
i use main set up for video but now nice i can add a third option into the mix for more flexibility [i grade in prores]

Not yet. Waiting for my exchange device. Replaced a 16 pro 6.3 inch 512 black with a 16 plus 6.7 inch 512 black. Should be here by Tuesday .
Being 50 that larger screen will benefit me the most. 120hz i cant tell a difference, 5x zoom, i hardly ever used it, same just about on everything else.

The 16 plus has advantages which dont show up on the spec sheet. Like weight. The 16 plus is a whole ounce lighter than the 16 pro max at 227 grams to 199 grams. Its also slightly thinner.

Every day usage it is much more comfortable in the hand. More enjoyable to use on the day to day. That is more important than a 120hz screen i cant tell a difference between a 60hz screen with and a 5x zoom i never use.

I don't get the hype about 120hz displays. I have turned it off on my MacBook Pro, as I couldn't tell the difference with it on or off. Why waste battery on a feature that I can't even notice.

I'm not getting a new iPhone for a few more years yet, and I am a little tempted by the Pro, but it's the Always On Display, and the improved cameras that appeal.
