Every time I'm going to buy a new mac (once a year) I ask myself the same thing. The issue here is:

1.Do you already know/love mac os X?
2.Do you really need a mac?

If you can do without it, I'd say go for a PC. However, if you run Final Cut pro, DVD Studio Pro, or any other Mac exclusive software you have no option.

Macs for me are basically all about the OS. The hardware could be MUCH better for what they cost.

As I noticed, money is subject. If you're willing to have a better computer overall experience and are willing to spend the money, go for it.

I'm being honest because I hate to see people buying Macs just because of their coolness or status symbol.

If you are going to run windows for more than 50% of time in the computer the mac isn't the best choice.

For about $2200 you can buy an entry level MBP 13" or a refurbished 15"(which I recommend) + a decent PC laptop/desktop.

Remember: Macs are just computers, they fail just about as much as any other computer and don't think Apple Care is the way to go. It's a money making machine for Apple.

I hope this helps. Just think about how much you need/want it.
