You are correct. In 99.99% of cases, the Sprint iPhone is locked and can only be unlocked for international use.

However, there is one very minor exception and here's how.

Apple has a deal with Sprint. Because of that deal, Sprint MUST honor what Apple asks of it inside the terms of that deal. If Apple does not have a Sprint iPhone Apple can and has at least in two cases I am aware of furnished the customer with an UNLOCKED (international AND domestic) iPhone. Because of the terms of it's agreement with Apple, Sprint MUST activate that phone. The IMEI of that iPhone is already in the unlock database and so is therefore unlocked and even if Sprint doesn't like it the deal requires them to activate it.

That is the only exception I've ever seen to this and it's rare. And I didn't even know it could happen at all until about a week ago.

I have one of the ones he's talking about! :)

YOU WIN!

Happy?!

Verizon and AT&T will always beat Sprint on LTE speed. Nobody is arguing that. So. You will win each and every damn time.

Now, for the rest of us who are using Sprint LTE we get the consolation prize of having useable unlimited data. Notice the word I have used here. USEABLE!!!

Not fast, not anywhere near AT&T and Verizon speeds, but useable. And useable matters far more to us Sprint users when loading a web page or streaming music or opening an app. Because we don't NEED 56 down and 7 up to do that.

And I'm also supporting this post! It doesn't bother me, at all, that it's slower than the other networks. Posting speeds tests from other network and ragging on sprint will never bother me. I am perfectly happy with it and so is my son.

My iPhone through Sprint is UNLOCKED. I know this for sure. So mine is UNLOCKED. Not by Sprint by Apple... I'm not trolling just telling the truth

Just need usable.

I know this for a fact is TRUE! I'm just happy to be a lucky one ... Lol

Trolls :)

I'm on a carrier that provides me adequate speeds everywhere I travel, rather than leave to me to just look at other lucky people in secondary city centers who can speed test in limited areas. So yes, as a former Sprint user, I'm very happy.

Verizon and AT&T will always beat Sprint on LTE speed.

And whose fault is that? It doesn't have to be this way. If Sprint hadn't gone off chasing dead-end standards for the past half-decade, they'd be in a much better position. And you're right, they don't NEED to surpass the Tier 1 carriers in terms of speed. But if they can meet half the speed, it would also be nice to meet half the coverage, at least.

Now, for the rest of us who are using Sprint LTE we get the consolation prize of having useable unlimited data. Notice the word I have used here. USEABLE!!!

Lucky you. Now who's gloating? While the majority of other Sprint users get the "unlimited" carrot dangled in front of them, but the data is very unuseable.

If the lucky minority of Sprint LTE users are going to get so upset that they need to justify why they don't "need" high speeds, then perhaps they shouldn't defend when their brethren post screenshots in full size of their LTE speeds with smug retorts like "check mate." That's the point I'm making. Pot, meet kettle.

Don't Lord your speedtest results over others who can't obtain the same results from the same carrier, if it's going to bother you so much that others will "out speed" you in a similar manner.

Good for you. It's very important that you and you alone are happy.

That's Sprint's fault. It was a little matter of having spectrum at one point and the FCC saying use the spectrum or lose the license. LTE was a concept then and WiMax was the only thing Sprint had. Because, due to Gary Forsee and the Nextel buyout Sprint didn't have any money to build anything.

You misinterpret my reaction to your gloating as my gloating. Why would I gloat about speeds that aren't anywhere near yours?

I'm not arguing unuseability with 3G. Read my posts here. You are a 601, you've been around quite longer than I have to see what I've written. I DEFY you to find any of my posts where I ever said that 3G was useable or was even good.

Oh, so you responding that way to the other poster's screenshot was ok. Two wrongs (three counting me) make a right. Got it!

Yeah ok. Don't think she was doing that. But if posting a screenshot to show your speed is lording it over others I would thank you to keep your own speed tests to yourself. We don't need to be graced by the blinding light of God as delivered by your holy speed test results. Thanks!

So.. Question. If .. If... My sprint iphone gets unlocked.. Don't they have the same bands and radios as tmobile att and Verizon. Meaning I can basically swap the SIM card and use it on any carrier?

I'm not arguing unuseability with 3G.

And yet, usability with 3G is not only a reality for most Sprint users, it's the only option. that was the whole point that started this.

Not if you guys are gonna keep doing it. :)

And you're taking this way too personally. Why people defend Sprint so enthusiastically, when they fail to deserve it, is something I'll never understand. Anyway, enjoy your Sprint service.

If your iPhone is locked to Sprint, then no. It will never be unlocked for domestic use, they don't do that. They will only unlock them for international use and for them to do that, it has to be on an active line for at least 90days and your account must be in good standing, with no spending limit.

The ones we were talking about were never locked to begin with.

I'll post something similar here for you, just as I did in another thread…

The problem is this attitude, you act as if no one has the right to be happy with Sprint, because you wouldn't be…or whomever the relevant person is that's bashing them wouldn't be happy with them.

Not all of us have a problem with Sprint and we are allowed to defend our service choice, just as much as you are allowed to defend yours.

I have no problem with Sprint service, but I admit I am in the Seattle area which has LTE. My son is also happy with them, but he's in the DC metro area, which also has LTE.

If you attack someone's choices, they are going to defend them. The fact that Sprint doesn't deserve it is only your opinion.

No one is trying to claim they are better and faster than the other carriers, what we ARE saying, however, is that WE are perfectly content with our service.

You will never be able to get it unlocked for Domestic use. Had you bought one and it was unlocked to begin with then yes, but even after Sprint "unlocks" it's only for international.

In my case and I know of one other when I had bought my iphone from Apple they didn't have any more Sprint in stock so I'm assuming to make me happy the activated an unlocked one on my account and Sprint had to activate it because in there deal with Apple ... Apple holds the cards... So basically if Apple tells them to jump ... Sprint has to say .. How high?

One other thing to add my fiancée did not get this lucky as the one we bought for her is locked to Sprint
