People are falling into the ******** marketing trap that megapixels = quality.

The iPhone camera is a good phone camera, if yours looks poor then its likely you have a hardware defect as summarized above.

I'm not sticking up for it, I would like a better camera, but its not all that bad.

I can buy a 10 megapixel camera for £99, does that make it a good camera? Feck no.

Given the rather lackluster battery in the iPhone, I can't believe some people actually WANT a flash added in.

The thing doesn't die quickly enough for you?

Do ANY of these other phones with a flash have big, bright screen like the iPhone? I think you get one or the other. And quite frankly, I'd rather have the screen.

i wish people would stop using the lame it-will-kill-your-battery argument. its not relevant whatsoever.

Maybe the OP should clean their lens. My iphone takes great pics.

I'm really happy with my 3g as well.

I'm taking so many more pictures with my iPhone compared to my previous phone (D600) and people browse them so much more, because the pictures look decent and it's easy to flick through them.

no, people want it all, and they want it to be better than everything else in the world.

Apple isnt a miracle worker, there are limitations to current technology, especially considering apple doesnt actually make most parts it uses.

umm not really. i just want the camera to be actually usable. completely worthless camera after basically 5-6pm.

so you want flash. i still dont undestand how that one feature missing makes it a terrible camera?

aaannnndd if the camera was so damn important, why did you buy the iphone?

ummm obviously since you basically have to be in full daylight to take decent pics with it? the only times i would ever need it is if im out with friends at night, in which case makes the camera completely worthless. its not a deal breaker, but since this thread is obviously about THE CAMERA then it makes sense to mention it.

but sure, leave it to mac fanboys to defend a camera that is quite clearly subpar compared to other phones.

Considering it's a 2MP camera with zero features, it's pretty darn good.
In a brightly lit room or daylight, it's a very good snapper. It only fails when in low light conditions.

I can agree with the fact that the camera is nearly worthless in night time situations. That sort of sucks for sure. In daylight it's an awesome camera though.

My real camera can take about 400-500 photos without flash but only 75-100 with a flash before the battery dies. That's a pretty big change, and that's just a camera. It's not doing anything but taking pictures.

You don't think that's a significant issue with a cell phone?

i'm happy with the camera

The camera is so-so but I wish it had at least some more setting controls. Like adjustment for the light source and ESPECIALLY a macro setting so that you can tell it to focus up close. I was trying to take a picture of a praying mantis perched on some monkey bars the other day and the mantis was all blurry but the playground pebbles in the background were perfectly focused.

Where do you get that from that you can't have a good camera with flash and a large screen. Are you serious?

You are absolutely right. If it had settings that you could adjust. It would have been ok. My old samsung crappy flip phone has more options with the camera than the smart iPhone.

when it comes to battery life with a big screen and flash with todays battery technology, nope. Id rather have a decent camera than a great one with flash that cuts my battery down by anymore.

no its not a significant issue. i dont see any other camera phone WITH flash getting complaints about bohohoh low battery life. and this is a cellphone camera like you said, obviously no ones going to be taking day-long photoshoots with it.

people are still boo hooing about the iphones battery.....

The fact is, my iPhone needs to be charged every 15 hours or so. I get by, but I really couldn't live with it going lower. (And no, I'm not playing games with it or anything. This is with normal cell phone and web use.)

This means that if they did add a flash, I'd have to be stupid to ever use it.

So what's the point in adding a feature that I can't use?

People are falling into the ******** marketing trap that megapixels = quality.

True. Resolution is mostly about the lens these days. And the lens in the 3G seems reasonably well matched to the 2MP sensor. Put a 10MP sensor behind a pin-hole lens, and all you'll get is lots of redundant diffraction blurred pixels wasting memory.

Does anyone know of a good lens test chart I can use to check my iPhone camera?

.

Maybe the OP should clean their lens. My iphone takes great pics.

A serious point has just been made: The iPhone lens can easily get smudges and the pictures will suffer and be blurry as a blizzard. Gently wipe in circular motion with a soft cloth to completely clean the lens. Do this whenever you get blurry photos repeatedly. My iPhone lens gets smudgy/dirty constantly and I have to clean it. If you don't your pics will look horrible.

I love the iPhone camera. I have taken some pretty amazing pictures with it. People have had a hard time believing some of them were from my phone they are so nice.

like i already said, the iphone takes fine pictures DURING THE DAY. its the rest of the day where it completely fails.

It's a fixed focus lens. Have you tried photographing through a magnifying glass?

I'm sure the next generation iPhone will have a much better quality camera, but right now I really can't complain about a 2mp camera in a phone. My first digital camera back in the day wasn't even one megapixel. The iPhone's camera is great when I need a quick photo of something, but typically, if I'm going to be somewhere where I need higher quality photos I'll bring my actual camera. :)
