Has anyone had any luck by speeding it up? Maybe calling Apple or speaking to customer service online?

I could still be about a month before I get it

Yeah, call them up and tell them you are super super special so you need an earlier delivery.

I didn't check my local Apple store. Best Buy did have one but I like buying from Apple directly

Yes, that's the way to get it immediately.
Check Apple Store inventory every morning and when you see the model, storage and color you want - pay for it and either have a courier deliver to you or pick it up at the Apple Store.

Then cancel your online order.

It's worth preordering iPhones in general. I immediately preordered on 09/09 and it was delivered on 20/09. (I've been continuously shooting with it since then )

In Finland, we also have weeks-long delivery estimates so people now ordering will receive them quite a bit later.

I've had that problem. I buy them online for in store pickup in those cases. Sometimes I've also bought from my cellular carrier. The Apple store is quite far from me, but I preferred not to wait.

100% use the apple store app to check store pickup stock for your preferred size/color/carrier each night and morning. I've given this advice to two people who both had October dates and they each were able to find a 14 Pro / Pro Max within a couple days locally and then cancel their original orders.

You might get lucky and get it delivered earlier. Last year, I ordered my iPhone 13 Pro Max on 11/10/2021 with an estimated delivery date between 12/11/2021 and 19/11/2021. I ended up receiving my phone on 03/11/2021.

Yes! Stand outside and wait by the curb, this way it will be faster for the delivery agent to drop it off to you!

There is zero benefit to buying from Apple. Best Buy will not have to check you in to check you in to talk about checking in to buy a product.
