Is there an advantage to buying from Apple.com as opposed to macmall/macconnection?

i bought a unibody mbp thru macmall this christmas and i had a issue with the battery. i went to the apple store and they gladly replaced it for me. i dont know, i dont see a reason why i should pay like 200$ in tax for no reason when u can get the same product for cheaper. its not like the warranty is void if you buy it from other retailers. LOL .
