Get your facts straight.They are charging $20 for an upgrade to people who already bought it??????
The upgrade price is $9.99.

What a quaint and socialist view and as if you'd know what the development costs are.Products cost what people will pay and in this case, what the alternative is, $25/month tethering from ATT. Not to mention MyWi 4.0 was completely rewritten from 3.0 to support iOS4.
Even if they are uninformed.
Get your facts straight.
The upgrade price is $9.99.
MyWi 3.x -> $9.99Okay, ten bux... so a net price of $30 for me in 90 days, for an app that does one simple function. Not sure why you get so defensive... all I'm saying is I have a problem with it. Do you argue with everyone who disagrees with you?
MyWi 3.x -> $9.99
MyWi 4.x -> $19.99
MyWi 4.x upgrade from 3.x -> $9.99
I'm not being defensive. And where the hell did I argue?
The prices are all on their web site.
If you sign in and have a valid 3.x license, and you buy 4.x then you pay the upgrade price.
If you think you got fleeced, then just take it up with the developer. All the shouting people do on this forum won't change a thing.
Ok I'm kinda new to Rock. To me it just looks like an alternative to Cydia which you can use - or not. I mean, I installed MyWi on my iPhone 4 and am currently evaluating it. Sure, it installed Rock too, but I don't HAVE to use Rock, do I?
Oh and maybe it's just me being ignorant, but Rock doesn't seem like such a bad app, I mean, it's way faster than Cydia which can be a drag in some cases.

What a narrow-minded view. You know AT&T is one of the few carriers out of the thousands of GSM carriers in the world that CHARGE a premium for the "ability" to tether. So no, in my case the alternative is live with a USB cable as I stated. Back in the day when AT&T provided unlimited data, it made sense to charge for tethering, but now that it's pay-per-use essentially, how do they justify charging you based on how you want to use the data bucket you subscribe to? It's horse sh#$!!!
Then don't come back to the states. People that whine about things they can't change need to grow up.In almost every other country, on almost any other carrier, you buy a data plan, be it metered or unlimited, plug in the usb cord and tether. If you use more data they LOVE it because then they make more money, just like AT&T will naturally if they let anyone tether (people will bust that cap open so quick, then will be paying an arm and a leg to them)..... but I think other counrties are better equipped for data than AT&T (ie in London I get about 2.7 mbps, and in Manila I get about 3.0 mbps, in Hong Kong I get about 2.0) ... when I'm in the US, the best I get is about 1.5...
Be thankful for Saurik updating the Mobile Substrate so quickly when issues are identified. I remember in the old days of JB when a new JB would come out it'd take days for adjustments to be made and release. He's doing a great job at keeping up with people's requests. I hope he's at least getting a little bit of sleep![]()
I'm more for supporting cydia devs then appstore because it's not so mainstream and it's generally, i feel, more of hobbyists doing the work.. and I still have a bit of that youthful angst still in me that makes this feel like I'm "sticking it to the man" by supporting third party development.. I always feel like I should come across more problems using third part unscreened apps, and am usually surprised by how well they usually end up working, of course there are those few tacks that stick out here and there, but the carpet is abundantI am all for supporting devs, my phone is loaded with paid app store apps, and even paid cydia apps
I didn't write that many words yet you managed to totally miss the point and totally ignored my question of how would you know how many hours and how much it cost to develop MyWi 4. Typical behavior of a forum whiner.
Then don't come back to the states. People that whine about things they can't change need to grow up.
Once again, you miss the point. I'll reduce it to 1 sentence.I'm well aware of application development costs. How many people do you think it takes to create MyWi vs Tiger Woods PGA Tour. I'd be willing to bet it's 1 vs 100 in terms of people\man hours. But you know best, you're just arguing for the sake of arguing.
The difference is I don't whine about ATT's tethering policy, data plans or network speeds.And you're bitching at me for complaining about US carrier's policies and practices, yet you're committing a breach of contract with both Apple AND AT&T in manipulating your phone to use the network and device in a method prohibited by both companies.... so pot, meet kettle.
A very simple solution for people who only need occasional tethering is to go to the rock website and create a new account and add a trial license for mywi to the account. As of now, they don't even verify email addresses, so you can just make one up. Then delete the old account from rock.app and add the new one = new 10 day trial.
So stop here and respect that I have a right to be upset that I have to pay for the same app twice in a year when I was promised "Free upgrades for 1 year"
I am using an iPhone 4 and a WiFi iPad. Is there an alternative to MyWi?
I just want to tether my iPad every now and again and MyWi, although very nice, is just way overpriced at $20
I understand the dev not wanting to give it away for free, but I have to vote with my dollar here.
Wah wah. The app is reasonably priced. He has a monopoly on wifi tethering for iPhone, which is necessary for iPad tethering. He has the right to charge what he chooses. Given the alternatives for iPad tether... Oh wait, there aren't any. Don't like it? Don't buy it. I can guarantee you that the majority of people here don't want to hear you whine about it though.
If you can afford an iphone and ipad I'm sure you can throw down 20 bucks. Just think about it... It is well worth it considering it's an extra 20 bucks a month if you do it through AT&T.
Not possible with factory software. There is no non-jailbreak option to tether an iPad.
And yep you are right, I got $20. Hell I should take a picture of it next to my debit card. I'm just not going to give it to the developer of mywi.
It has been made quite clear in the above posts that the developer is one shady dude. He's not getting my $20.
Natesac-- if you have HandyLight, there IS a way to make it work with the iPad. It does require the brief use of the free version of MyWi (one time only, it claims, so no purchase needed), and a jailbroken iPad (rather than a JB'd iPhone):

I haven't personally tried it, as I just don't want to mess with a JB on that device yet. But this workaround was published in a couple of places right after HandyLight was pulled from the App Store, and it supposedly works.

Exactly what proof do you have the developer is a 'shady dude'? Not liking the price is one thing. Making libelous statements takes things to a even lower level.
It is amazing how many of you just don't understand that not everyone is leeching from ATT on a daily basis to justify a $20 cost.
The developer can charge what he wants..but we are on jailbroken iphones for a reason.

Well, to be fair, I honestly don't have an issue with the price, though I can understand why others might. But I'm attending a conference in a few weeks where the hotel charges $15 a day for wireless. Frankly, paying $20 once and being able to use it whenever I need to thereafter, even as minimally as I do, sounds a lot more appealing. The convenience factor of just being able to turn on an app and have it happen outweighs the free but PITA factor of the HandyLight workaround for me.
But I can see why people are upset about the price jump. Doubling the price after promising free upgrades for a year isn't going to win friends, even if you created the most amazing app on earth.
