i would bet some money that all these screens are made by LG. the one ifixit tore down had an LG made display. the Retina macbook pro's have been having issues with LG LCD for a long time. All the LG made display on that model have ghosting issues. if your lucky and you get a samsung sourced screen there is no issue. when will apple learn? this is unacceptable for a $3000 computer! we shouldn't have to "hope it will be ok" and return it multiple times. if they had just used samsung it would probably be fine.

I am now on my third IMac 5K and the backlight bleeding is totally unacceptable for a $3000 computer. I have been to 2 different Apple stores and there base 5K display model had zero backlight bleeding. My unit is customized with upgraded processor, video card and HD. Apple should be ashamed of themselves for releasing a product with these defects. The non retina IMac displays have no light bleeding at all. The screen is manufactured by LG and maybe this is the problem. I now have a fourth replacement being sent out and I am praying this one doesn't have any issues. I have attached a picture and this with brightness turned all the way up.

I got a base model at my local apple store got lucky there's some minor bleeding but nothing bad, my dad order a custom one came looking just like yours but even worse with scratches on the side and base.

And yes the base model is very lagy, deciding what to do with it. Frustrating honestly because I know if I order a special configuration the screen will look terrible

Is there any 5K iMac without backlight bleed?

It's at 100% brightness.

There is something seriously wrong with your screen or camera then.

Remember to turn the light off, THEN put the brightness up. Otherwise it will auto dim when you turn the lights out.

It won't if "Automatically adjust brightness" is not checked, will it.

It's just how the phone took the picture, how is everyone else taking their pics? When mine focuses it adjusts itself like this.

I'd want a replacement if that was as powerful as my backlight was. A strong backlight should be able to produce a gray on any LCD screen (light shining through black). There is hardly enough contrast there to calibrate that properly in a dark room let alone a lit room.

Post a full screen brightness calibration in the dark at max brightness. You should be able to EASILY see to the 0 scale (or whatever reference the image uses).

I once ran into a Samsung monitor with a faulty blacklight that was similar.

It's just a phone exposure setting. It's not any symptom of a broken screen.

Well this is the best I could do with the iPhone camera. It kept trying to adjust the exposure for the blackness. I had to leave a light on in the back. It has some slight bleeding in 2 spots on the bottom mid-right quarter.

Top mid is a glare. I tried to block out most of it with my head but that didn't work out too well.

I thought so, in the exact same spots where I saw it in the other pic after I did a software exposure adjustment.

Thanks for posting this to clear up all the confusion.

Are you sure? I spotted bleed there in the other photo as well.

Have a lot of backlight bleed on bottom right, they all have it somewhere, **** displays. "Part of screen technology" give me a break, it's a $3000 machine get it right apple.

Maybe there is. It was frustrating trying to stop the glare. But with the lights off the camera would adjust itself differently.

Man if you think this is a lot of backlight bleeding I'd love to see what you're using. You guys should look at the crappy refurb Dell sent me as a replacement on the ultra book I unfortunately purchased off them. The bleeding is noticeable even on colors.

This is about as good as it gets. There will always be some light bleed in the corners and edges. I shake my head at the people here returning 3-4 high end iMacs for an issue that is simply "part of the deal" unfortunately. Apple obviously has some very impressive costumer service, but hopefully the OCD people won't end up ruining it for everyone else - forcing Apple to restrict their return policy. I do hope that Apple continue to improve their monitors though.

While I respect your comments I have to disagree with your opinion. We are talking about a $3000 computer after upgrades. Yes minimal backlight bleeding is acceptable but if you go back and look at my photos the backlight bleeding is very excessive. When I spend $3000 I expect a quality unit especially if it is an Apple product. I think that Apple's quality control has slipped over the years and part of that is due to manufacturing in China. I have seen 2 identical IMac's of which one is built in China and the other built in USA. The USA build quality is much better IMO. Apple should never have let the machines with excessive backlight bleeding leave their assembly line. I had a late 2012 IMac 21.5 model and had no backlight bleeding issues at all. What has changed? Apple used Samsung in the past for their screens. Since Apple and Samsung are constantly in lawsuits against each other they no longer use screens from Samsung. The screens are now manufactured by LG. Samsung clearly has a better quality screen. Until I get an IMac that is acceptable I will continue to have them replaced. I have submitted the photos to Apple from each machine and they can't believe what they are seeing. There response is to replace the unit.

Was at local apple store and was actually told and shown that it's a apple documented problem, and they are getting a lot back on returns, people are complaining once they get them home. Thought that was interesting FYI.

Sorry that yours had backlight bleed. Mine is perfect. Exchange it if it bothers you. Stop worrying about it.
