It'll be a small spec bump. Tim Cook said there was something awesome late next year for professional users and I don't think he was just referring to Mac Pro users.

He clarified after the keyote via email in late 2013 a updated Mac Pro was being released so there's that not the iMac.

If the iMac was going to get a small spec bump it would have happened like the small spec bump that just happened to the Mac Pro.

Maybe...However, the Mac Pro hardly even qualified as a spec bump. Apple was forced to quickly remove the "New" logo from their website. Like many, I think the next iMac will have the same form factor but will include new processors and USB 3. I think the big changes will come next year.

I would only ever buy a new apple product quite close to the release date. It's about price for me, when you're shelling out a couple of grand for a laptop, I want it to be at the leading edge of its capability for the longest possible time.

I couldn't agree more with this. You can't compare purchasing a new car with a computer. Yes the car industry moves forward, but it doesn't move forward anywhere nearly as quickly as the tech industry.

It's all about getting the best bang for your buck. Yes the current iMacs are good, but the new ones will be better. Surely it makes logical sense to purchase ANY new technology close to when it is released, so it remains current for as long possible?

If you desperately need a new machine, sure, get one, it'll work great. You might just find yourselves a little annoyed when the new ones come out shortly.

What's important I feel about the upcoming update is the inclusion of USB 3.0. Moving forward all new peripherals will use this, and it's a huge advantage with data transfer. If you're someone who keeps their machine for a while, you could find yourselves regretting getting a current spec machine now that's lacks this new standard.

Hi All

Like most of us I was waiting for the upgrade that never happened.

I don't have a Mac at the moment, never had one,but the main reason for wanting it is to run Logic Pro 9.

I read somwhere that if I buy now,I will probably only get 12 months use from it before the Software updates overtake the machines capability, and I would need to get another Mac just to keep up.

Would someone please comment on this and hopefuly help me make a decision.I really don't know what to do.

Thanks

Alan

Macs aren't like iPhones :) You'll be able to use your mac for as long as it holds out (5+ years.) It's just like buying a PC and seeing a new version of that PC come out, it'll still do everything you want in the future.

I'm really hoping for an August spec bump however because I'm planning on buying one for my birthday. If one doesn't happen then I'll just cave in and buy the 2011 model.

I would go for it and buy your iMac now.

Back in March I was on these forums trying to decide whether to buy my first iMac or wait for the refresh. I have no regrets about buying the iMac it is excellent in every way.

if you look at apple insiders buyers guid and price drops, its obvious that shops are trying to clear out their inventory. you can save above 120$ on the i5 if you buy it now.

I´m curious, do shops buy in more of the current imacs? can they or are they just getting rid of the last models they have?

The market says - no one wants these machines.

I don't know that no one wants them. I would certainly buy a 2011 27" i7, etc. In fact I would do it right now.

However, I am NOT going to do it at the current price - that was last years price for last years hardware.

This years price is a lot lower for LAST years hardware. Apple can charge whatever they want, but until it's $800+ cheaper.....:D

Fact of the matter is the 2011's are not worth what is being asked for them at this particular time. If Apple wants to sell them, they need to lower the prices - by a LOT.
