It’s very frustrating when I’m trying to read a thread and ads are cycling and changing to different sizes and the posts move up or down to adjust, and I lose my place.
It’s especially irritating when loading a new page, because it takes awhile for all the ads to load and until they do, the posts bounce up and down like crazy, so I have to wait for everything to load and calm down. If the ad sizes were consistent, the layout could load first before the actual ad images, and that way the whole page could be readable immediately.
Is this possible? It would make for a much better reader experience. Thanks.

It may not just be ads, the images load in after-the-fact too. I assume this is when you click on an alert or unread thread and you get links into the middle of it?

Or do you mean ads are changing after a period of time?

It is images within user posts too for those threads that have them, but I don’t know what can be done about that. But ads are in every thread so those are usually the culprit.
It is both of those cases you mentioned. If I click to a specific post sometimes I don’t end up at that post because it’s been pushed down by ads (or images, but more frequently ads), so I have to scroll around looking for it.
Also while I’m already in a thread reading, an ad will change and shift the post down or up and I get discombobulated.
It’s not the end of the world, but it can be annoying, so if it’s not a huge issue to address...

You could donate to MacRumors to get rid of most ads.

I’m not trying to get rid of the ads though, just have a better experience with ads. Besides the goal isn’t to make ads more annoying than they have to be so that people will pay to get rid of them. I’m sure MR wants everyone to have as good of an experience as possible whether donators or not.

Yeah... we do what we can to make them less disruptive.

I need to test it a little more. From what I can tell, it's most likely images and embeds (twitter/YouTube) that are the culprits.

For example, when visiting this mid-page link with ads, but no embedded media, I don't get any jumping. [edit: well, as much. I tested lower down, and it did jump]

But here, when the 1st post has a lot of images, it gets messed up

Let me see what can be done.

For the posts with images, hmm yeah I don’t know how you’d get around that. I was mostly just talking about the forum threads with no images.

In any case, I appreciate you looking into it!
