I've had many frustrations and 'issues' with my MBP experience so far - kernel panics, the yellowing, uneven backlighting, dead pixels, faulty battery... Aside from a sticking trackpad and un-punched perforation in the left speaker grille (which are such trivial things I'm not complaining about them) I'm hoping that this MBP with the new replacement battery will be a good machine for me! 🙂

Finally!

Third time's a charm for me. I picked up my second replacement yesterday afternoon. Like the first two, its build quality and performance are second to none. Unlike the first two, this one has a great display with no perceivable defects!

My saga went like this:
  • Week 22 Build (Samsung Glossy): Slightly uneven backlight top to bottom. Not sure if bottom had yellow tint or if it was just a little darker. Backlight failed after 13 days.

  • Week 24 Build (LG Matte): Very uneven backlight left to right. Made every solid color look like a gradient. Also had some backlight bleed at the bottom that was visible on a solid black background.

  • Week 25 Build (LG Matte): Bright, even color. No backlight issues that I can detect. I think this is what these displays are supposed to look like. I spent three hours last night looking for a flaw and couldn't find one!
In all three cases, I had no dead pixels and no flicker. Also in all three cases, the default ColorSync profile was way off. Apple is definitely shipping these things with a slightly warm white point (around 6300k) and a noticeable green push. The default gamma of 1.8 is also quite bad on these displays. It really washes out the color and "enhances" gradient banding. The net effect is a real disservice to customers. A good profile is the difference between a sub-par display and an excellent one.

My advice to 15.4" SR MBP owners is to invest in a good color calibrator or at least change the default gamma from 1.8 to 2.2. Another decent option is SuperCal.

Thanks for the advice - I totally forgot to calibrate the display on my MBP😱

Very happy with mine. I've had absolutely no problems, I love it. It's not a newer SantaRosa model, I waited awhile after the original C2D came out to buy to make sure any bugs were worked out.

MBP Video Card Drivers

This is killing me. I want to play COD2 already 🙁 When are they going to fix the frickin nvidia drivers for the new 15"MBP?

I love my mbp. apart from the above.

Sorry if I am wrong!!
I assume you want to play on windows, so can't you just download the regular NVIDIA drivers and install them instead of the bootcamp version?

I love it but...

My SR MBP 2.2 looks and works great! I've had a couple of those weird errors that I've read about on here.

I had a kernel panic after I calibrated my battery - I ran out my batter let it sleep until it died charged it back up and started it again. I just restarted it and it worked fine. I got kinda of worried.

I also had Photoboth make my screen go completely dark after taking a picture.

I'm afraid to calibrate my display after hearing these yellow tint stories. I don't think the display looks bad at all right now so i won't mess with it as i'm not into graphic design more music.

And then there's the heat - 77 C at the highest it made my legs sweat! I understand this is normal bu ti am considering dling that fan control program.

🙂 my Refurb 15" 2.0 CD still impresses me, it has a couple of defects (dead pixels/wonky keyboard) but it works perfectly and screams along. Best computer I've ever owned, I love it 😀

Right topic this time, woo!

I bought the mac version almost a year ago. I dont use bootcamp.

Amazingly, overwhelmingly, happy! Its my very first Mac since the 90s, 2.2 Ghz MBP and its perfect in every way.

Mine is perfect. I'm in love 😱
This mac smokes my old PC and every other computer I've been on.
