Have both the iPhone 6 plus and an iPad. Also planning on updating my iPad at refresh. No reason for the mini...

I don't have a reason for an iPad with the 6 plus. To each his own. I find reading on it great. The iPad isn't enough of an improvement for me to justify a couple hundred bucks, at minimum, anymore.

This is completely subjective. For me I didn't really use my iPad much, it was an at home toy. Since getting my 6+ I stopped using my iPad altogether and just sold it.

I've considered (briefly) flipping my mini retina and getting a 6+. I just think the 6+ is excessively big considering the size of its screen. And I love my iPad mini. I use it constantly for games, music creation, email, web, shopping, books. The drop to a 5.5" screen on my only iOS device would be too much of a sacrifice I think.

I still use my iPad Mini for games and apps that aren't available on the iPhone (Hearthstone) or just look/work better on the larger screen (Shuttersnitch).

I have my 6 Plus and iPad 2. I'm sitting here typing on my ipad while listening to Brady talk about throwing over 50,000 yards with my Iphone sitting beside me.

I use my phone for on the go but ipad for home/plane use.

I think there's definitely a reason for an iPad Air and an iPhone 6+. Having an iPad Mini would be questionable though. A luxury and not a necessity. The difference between 5.5" and 7.9" is not that significant when you consider how convenient the 6+ is (fits in a pocket and has a cellular radio).

Lulz debating whether to buy the iPad pro or get the surface pro

The Surface Pro 3 is serious hardware. I have tried all three versions and the 3 is really good yet not mature in my opinion.

The iPad Pro, if there is such a thing, will be restricted from being all it could be by Apple. A proper files system would be a good start but I am jot getting my hopes up.

I sold my iPhone 5S and iPad mini to replace them with a 6 Plus. Been happy with the transition. The iPad mini was better for somethings than the 6 Plus and a smaller phone was better for being a phone but now I only carry once device as I used the iPad mini on the go at work.

As a 6 Plus user, if you have an iPad or plan on getting one, where do you think that fits in with your 6 Plus? Is an iPad Mini pretty much defunct now? Is there still use for an iPad Air? If so, what use cases does the iPad still fill for you (I would assume something like PDF mark ups or art etc)?

For me it's the other way around; is there a reason for an iphone 6+ if I have an iPad mini? A larger phone couldn't replace the mini tablet for me; it wouldn't be nearly as convenient for reading technical pdf documents. On the other hand, the iPad mini fits comfortably in my suit jacket pocket. Since it's with me everywhere, I only need a phone for phone calls, taking pictures, and sometimes audios, and I prefer one that's compact and doesn't get in the way.

I understand my use case is hardly universal, but I might have gotten a large screen phone like the six plus if it weren't for the iPad mini.

iPad Air and iPhone 5 for me, iPad 4 and iPhone 4s for my wife ... we are planning on selling my wife's iPad and transform my Air into the "Family" iPad (plus I'm getting an iPhone 6 Plus ... my wife's still undecided between 4.7 and 5.5, but she's getting a new iPhone too).

iPhone 6+ can't replace an iPad Air

I've sold my iPad mini since I've purchased the 6 plus but no way it'll replace an iPad Air

I love laying in bed and watching NBA on ipad air. Or a tv show. Or reading longforms. An ipad is still an ipad. It's still bigger than iphone 6+. A phone becomes bigger by 1,5 inch and suddenly a device that's 2,5 inches or 4,2 inches bigger is defunct?

This! Come on people, apple comes out with a larger phone and all of the sudden these significantly larger tablets become obsolete? The real difference is the jump from a 16:9 screen to a 4:3 screen, the 4:3 offers a significant difference in screen real estate for many tasks.

I love my 6+ as a phone, it's always with me and offers a much more enjoyable experience than the 5S it replaced. However, there is still a place for my iPad Air and my iPad Mini. My iPad Mini is easy to throw in my sales book for making sales calls, and it offers a much better experience for spreadsheets and document management than my 6+ due to its 3:2 screen. Then when at home nothing comes close to the Air when it comes to safari, email, Facebook, messaging, etc... I know each persons situation is different but different screen sizes exists for different reasons.

For me the Plus fills most of my needs for an iPad mini. At home if I am not on my macbook air then I am on my phone. The iPad mini has been relegated to occasional gaming use, but when I am doing more reading I can see myself using it more than my phone potentially.

Since I've now got hold a 6 plus, I have some thoughts of my own at this stage.

I happened to leave my iPad mini retina at work over the weekend. That forced me to use the plus for the entire weekend. I've found that I can make do, but there were times I was missing my iPad, eg gaming, watching and reading.

Sure, I could do all those things on the plus, but I always remembered that they were far better on the iPad. Maybe the plus' advantage is that I might be able to do all those things on situations with the plus on the go where previously I wouldn't have bothered bringing the iPad or connecting it to my phone's hotspot to do something.

So far, I can see why Apple left out a plus size phone until now. It's really a compromise between two. When you use it there are times you miss the larger iPad. At the same time, when on the go and mobile, there are times when you miss the smaller iPhone.

The only chief area it doesn't compromise at the moment for me is battery life. I'll have to see whether it's enough to keep me from going back to the 6.

Honestly, this is from the POV of some one who doesn't want a phone as big as the 6+ and honestly doesn't find her ipad super useful except when traveling (I really don't understand people who think it replaces a laptop... ugh, I would hate having to rely on my ipad only), but no.

When I'm home I prefer using my laptop. The ipad gets used when I'm in front of the tv and too lazy to unhook my laptop (that I have set up like a desktop when I'm at home). If I had a 6+ that would be just as fine for that (I actually wish I had an ipad mini but it was handed down to me by my mom so not complaining about a free ipad).

The ipad is also useful while in the airport (lot easier than setting up the laptop but now that I have a rMBP that starts up pretty quickly and shuts down quickly that may change. A good physical keyboard and a monitor that gets easily propped up just by opening it to sit in front of you makes it so much more pleasant to use than an ipad). An ipad 6+ would be just as fine for that.

Basically I see the ipad as a compromised experience useful when I have something to carry it around in but is still awkward to take out the laptop (basically the compromise is worth the convenience).

My iphone is for being able to access internet anywhere as it is supposed to be portable enough to just take everywhere (why I don't like the 6+ because it's not very easy to fit in any pocket. Shoot, I already thought the 5 was getting kinda big for that).Yes, it's compromised but it's the "but at least you have it". I want it to be easily portable to go anywhere I am which is why I find the phablets too big.

So the 6+ would kinda take the same place as the ipad. And would be suitable replacement for the ipad mini which I'd prefer anyways. The ipad is heavy and while I'd love to use it as an e-reader one reason I like e-readers is reading in bed which the ipad gets heavy on your arms after a while when holding it up above you and is hard to hold one handed to read. The iphone is kinda small but even so is easier to use as an ebook just cause of weight. The ipad mini was the perfect compromise, light enough for one hand but a bigger screen for reading. The 6+ would be big enough to somewhat be a decent ipad mini compromise (if I was really wanting one and wanting to compromise the portability function to be able to justify getting something close by also saying it would be my phone).

In the end, that's why I don't want a phablet though, it's compromise between trying to be small enough to be portable and trying to be big enough to be useful like a tablet just makes it compromised for everything and great for nothing. So yeah, my view is a tad biased on it.

The only reason for a 6+ and iPad...

I originally planned on getting a 6+ and selling my iPad mini to use the money towards it.

That was the plan until I found out I couldn't run iPad apps on it. I have some iPad only apps I use all the time so I think I will stick with my 5s since I'll still have to carry the mini around.

Too bad. Wish iPad only apps would run on the 6+

Yes.

The iPad is still well...a true iPad

The 6+ is just a big iPhone.

Most of my reading and even web browsing at home is done on the iPad.

The iPhone still cannot display technical PDFs large enough to view well. The mini is borderline and I prefer the Air for PDF reading. Though I use my 6+ anything requiring typing as I like the size for typing more than my Air.
