I really enjoy Live Photos on my iPhone.

I was wondering if the new Samsung Galaxy S8 has Live Photos or something similar.

Motion photos do not seem to be nearly as good as Live Photos in my opinion.

Live Photos, while some may say is a glorified video, one really does feel like they are reliving the moment IMO. I don't know how Apple does it, but when I watch a live photo, it feels like I'm there again. I think Live Photos is one of the greatest things Apple has ever created. For lack of a better word, it really is magical.

I saw motion photos on YouTube, and it really does seem like a glorified video. From what I understand, once does not get to see anything after the photo is taken (?). Also, from what I understand motion photos can only be viewed on the device (?).

While I do feel like the iPhone looks dated at this point, especially in front of the gorgeous "infinity display" of the new Samsung Galaxy S8, I am unwilling to compromise on certain features such as Live Photos.

It is somewhat of a shame to me, bc I absolutely love the new Samasung Galaxy S8. I've never seen a phone so beautiful.

Motion Photos are perfectly good if you use them day in day out. Especially great for those with pets or children.

I don't disagree with this. They do seem like a decent alternative. But given my love for Live Photos, I'm unwilling to compromise unless Samsung provides an equivalent feature.

This is the second thread you have started where you have asked if there was an "iPhone equivalent," gotten an answer, only to then respond with "yea but it is not as good as on the iPhone." Both of those questions were easily answered with a simple google search.

If you only want to reinforce your opinion of the iPhone, why are you in this forum?

I wanted to reinforce my opinion of the iPhone, and so I turned to this forum. I was going to switch, but confirmed it would not be good for me because of Live Photos and 3D Touch.

I love iPhone even more now. And actually value it more, now that I know there's no credible alternative for me.

I wanted to keep it civil, but heck with it.

If you want my true opinion of motion photos, based on the YouTube videos, in my opinion it looks like total junk, garabage, and a complete waste of time.

It's literally like a video a few seconds before you snap the photo. Are you kidding me? It's like a knockoff.

Live Photos captures just a few frames before and after with audio. It captures YOU, and takes you back to the moment.

Live Photos is my favorite iPhone feature.

Live Photos is, literally, a .mov file. It's nothing special and it's jank AF.

Except Apple didn't 'create' live photos. It was copied direct from Nokia Lumia phones.

When it comes to software, Apple has stolen 9 out of the 10 features you currently see on your iPhone.

Well to be fair, apple created live photos, just like touch id. They didn't create video+still+video or a finger print reader.

What we really need is a cross platform standard, I'm so tired of losing live pictures if I save them anywhere outside of Apple's ecosystem.

Agree about a cross platform standard but let's be honest, that doesn't really exist in Apple's vocabulary. ;)

FWIW, Google Photos, probably one of the bigger repositories for cloud photo storage, now supports Live Photos. IIRC, you use Microsoft OneDrive and I'm guessing they don't support Live Photos, do they?

Looks like I was right.

Meanwhile the day before yesterday it was 3D touch. What will it be tomorrow? iTunes?

Mike

It might be iTunes! Haha.

Yeah but who cares about Nokia

No, LP is just a group of photos that is in a video format. There is nothing magical about it. They aren't the first company to do it either.

I doubt that's what Jony Ive would say!

Pretty much everything Apple is pretty magical though...lately it's changed I feel but still the best products around.

Who cares what he says? He's pretty much PR at this point.

Naw it'll be big bezels and LCD display.

The person that started this thread already had his mind made up he would only own an iPhone before he wrote the first word.

Magical. Ha!

Do you really want to get into features that the Galaxy offers that the iPhone doesn't? Do you really want to play that game? Good luck.

-AMOLED qHD Display while iPhone has old fashioned LCD.
-5.8" and 6.2" Infinity display while iPhone has big old fashioned bezels and small screens.
-3.5 mm headphone jack
-IP 68 Waterproof rating. Better then the iPhones IP 67 and you still get a headphone jack and expandable storage!
-wireless charging and fast charging! Don't you ever get tired of how slow iPhone charges.
- Industry standard USB-C connectivity. Lighting? Apple doesn't even use it on their computers.
-Always on display and notifications
-Unlimited customization. Don't like the keyboard? Choose from dozens.
-True multi-tasking.
-Gear VR. Try VR on your low resolution iPhone display.

I could go on and on... but hey you've got your magical pictures!

For some people it's not about the list of hardware but how they use their devices. To some people magical pictures may be more important.

Maybe, but if magical pictures is your number 1 concern and you don't like Samsung's implementation of the feature then posting this is just trying to stir up trouble.
