They dont' fix it. The "Genius" will check the phone to confirm that it is a warranty issue and if it a covered problem they will just hand you an Apple refurbished iPhone 3G. 🙂

Do you have a specific reason to take one in for warranty exchange? Please remember that they don't cover water damage (liquid) or if you drop it and break the glass or the LCD. 😱

I was asking these questions to help me decide before I place an order.
At the moment based on what you told me, I think it is worth the risk.
How soon after I place an order can I expect delivery ?

AT&T tracking info

I received an email from AT&T with a link to the tracking info, but when I follow that link they ask me to register my wireless device which I don't have yet.
How am I supposed to track the shipment ?

I just received the tracking# for the 8GB black. it says 2ed day air so
hopefully I'll get it by thursday.
The big plus is that you can take the phone to an Apple store in case there is a problem with it.
I still hope I'll get a clean working Iphone.

Some people sell them on Craigslist for cheap without the contract requirement -that's always a cheaper option

You need to be very careful with CL ads for super cheap Iphones.
There are scam artists not really selling the genuine article.
Some of them will refer you to web sites where you need to pay a fee for getting links to other web sites which sell crap.

I received my iPhone today and the packaging seemed like it was open and the iPhone was sort of dirty. I cleaned it up and it was scratch-less. It seems like a pretty good deal to me.

I was just a little freaked out about how it looked like someone opened the packaging.

But other than that, it was a great deal. Thanks for everyone's help.
