Is this a good trade for an imac g4?

I think it has all been said already, but I'll repeat some things.

1) the iMac will not replace a windows 7 pc. It can do some things that the windows 7 can't, but it won't really replace it.
2) the iMac will make a great "extra" computer to have just for fun / playing.
3) The black MacBook is a good machine. I'm typing on a white 2007 and have zero problems with it.
4) Netflix is impossible on the iMac. Sorry.
5) YouTube will be iffy on the iMac. Depends on the specs. I have an 800mhz G4 iMac and it doesn't handle YouTube. MacTubes is better, bust still not good.
6) Working on the inside of the iMac isn't impossible. The tricky part is the heat sink is 2 pieces. 1 piece is in the base and the other piece is in the dome. You use thermal paste between the 2 as you put it back together.

Haha, I actually learned that yesterday. Haha. I tried to play Carmageddon in Leopard and it said Classic applications were not supported. Then I rebooted into my Tiger partition, and I don't have a Classic folder on my system so that didn't work either. How can I get a Classic folder on my G5's Tiger partition?

I've tried dragging the System folder off of my iMac G3's 9.2.2 disc, and that didn't work. I have my PowerMac G4's and an iMac G3 available if that can help me out...

Your love the iMac G4 as well they still are nice computers i have a iMac G4 15" 1GHz With 1.5GB Ram and got it the same way only i traded a old Dell because it could "Sync" the guys iPad were the iMac could not with Tiger. You also did good on the Macbook only if i could have got mine that way:D What OS is your MacBook running? only reason i ask is if you want Lion you will want to get it before mountain lion comes out later this month because they may take lion off the app store? and i don't think ML will work on a 2008 macbook (I'm in the same boat i have the white '08 2.4GHz Macbook) Lion runs good with only 2GB Ram and you have 4:D.

Yeah its even worse with 8 year old macs as apple has pretty much abandoned them. At least with windows you can still get the latest browsers and flash plugins.

Right now it has snow leopard. And it runs flawlessly. No lag at all. Just amazing. I highly think that ML will run on it just because lion is available for it. And ml just has some upgrades. I also got a magic mouse and a case and carry bag along with leopard and snow leopard discs. :)
 
Unless it's the 20" 1.25 GHz model, it's going to be useless for most applications other than mail, internet browsing, old games, music, and general storage.

I would get it just for the aesthetic appeal. I have one sitting on my desk right now, and I love the design. It's the original 15" 700 MHz model.

exactly, it would be used as a computer for people that come over to just check emails or stuff like that. i love the look of them. its one of a kind beauty.

Yeah, in that case it's a good idea. I set mine up in the guest room when family comes over just in case they want quick access to their email, or have to google something. Otherwise it sits on my computer desk next to the G4 cube and Mac Pro!
 
and why not, its for a 20$ phone case that i dont use. and a great piece of advancement in technology. but until i know for sure if im getting it or not, which will be tomorrow.. i get to play with my first macbook. :D
question is.. keep snow leopard or upgrade to lion.. i keep debating.. what are your opinions?

Keep Snow Leopard and wait for ML if it'll run on your blackbook. I'm thinking though it won't which is why you got the trade.

No Blackbook will run Mountian Lion. Lion is the highest his Blackbook can run, unless it's the CoreDuo then it's only Snow Leopard.

I miss my Black Book :(

Can't believe I sold it for $800 last year (which was a damn good price). Maybe one day I'll buy another.

I dont think I could see myself buying old Intel stuff..PowerPC yes, due its likeliness to never be reproduced by Apple. but old Intel stuff just seems...old.

If iCloud would be beneficial do it. If not then don't. There is an article today on low end mac where the gentleman just upgraded his blackbook to Lion and he seems quite happy. I don't have the sane positive experience. I'm pondering heading back to Snow Leopard for the white MB bow that my main desktop is not the old MP or the Hackintosh it'll keep the UI's closer and I can go back to having rhe sane application across both computers.
 
i love icloud. but if it will slow my blackbook down at all its not worth it.

I run Lion on my MacBook (in my signature) and it feels just as fast as snow leopard. And my sister with a 2.20GHz,2GB Ram MacBook runs Lion just fine as well and she has Safari,iTunes,Word,FaceTime open all at the same Time and she says it moves faster then when she had SL. What i did is do a clean install of SL first and then upgraded to Lion:) I have a feeling when ML comes out Snow Leopard support will start to drop i am even going to try to Make lion run on my Core Duo iMac:D What CPU Speed is your BlackBook?
 
mine is a 2.4 ghz. and i tried making a backup with time machine but i dont have an extra external hard drive at all.
 
i have lion on my black macbook and it runs fine
