After reselling my earlier iPhone X's at an extremely fair premium ($140 profit between the 2) I am left with this dilema. I wanted to negate the cost of my own X a tad by hoping to snag early phones.
Here's my situation/costs and I would like iPhone X users to tell me if this is really worth it.

2 iPhone's Sold - Profit: $140
Old iPhone Sold - Profit: $120

Total Off personal iPhone X = $260

Personal iPhone X cost: $1068.93-$260 = ~$809
I can afford this but my question is should I? I understand, many people dished out the full $1068 or more for theirs, but I want to know, do you think it is actually worth that?
I am coming from an iPhone 6 (the 7 is for work.) I usually get around 3 years out of a phone, so should the X be that phone?

I would love to hear your thoughts, Thank You! :)

bet u were pretty bummed u only landed 140 for 2 iphone Xs. glad I just cancelled mine. not even worth it

Here in Canada we pay 1,569.00. That’s a **** ton of money. I would have been happy for $250.00 off. I wanted it and I can afford it, so I bought it full price.

Would you say coming from a 6 it would be a huge step up?

If you can do without the face ID, the iPhone 8 will be less than $500 with the money you saved up. Over the 6, you get:
  • Performance upgrade (same as X)
  • Wireless charging (same as X)
  • Better camera (same as X, but no telephoto dual lens)
  • Longer battery life (longer than X)
  • Faster and more accurate touch ID (way better than 6)
  • 3D touch (same as X)
  • Official water proof rating (same as X)
Plus, iPhone 6 is the minimum model that gets $300 trade in credit at TMobile and I think most other carriers will match that. That makes your total purchase price under $200.

It would also make an iPhone X just over $500

Is $140 profit worth the trouble for pre-ordering and reselling two iPhone Xs? Serious question! I thought people were making like $500 or $1000 profit! o_O Am I missing something? I just can’t think of going through all that trouble for $140.

I had 2 options, 1 is to cancel the orders and make nothing and the other is to sell them at a small profit. I'm not upset, hey, I'm $140 richer :)

Since you keep a phone for 2-3 years I would turn your phone in for the $300 over two years along with the $260 and get the X. If you don’t want to take a chance with the new tech get the 8. Either way, it’s a huge upgrade from your 6 and for a reasonable cost

Upgrading to iPhone X has more cons than pros. Are you OK with Face-IDing instead of a simple button press to unlock? Are you ok with swiping up instead of pressing a button? Are you okay with swiping up and holding instead of double tapping a button?
"Upgrading" to iPhone X will only make daily tasks more difficult to perform. IF really need a new phone, 8 is a better option IMO.

If it didn’t require days of waiting or anything crazy selling for a small profit is still a win

Or returning them isn’t a great loss either

If it did, sucks! Guess u wasted ur time and effort Hana

$140 for less than an hour of work is never a waste of time. Assuming OP used a credit card to buy, OP probably sold before credit card payment was due so no interest payments either. If OP used a cash back card, OP still gets money back too.

You had to sell them really fast the morning they got released to make any money. By the afternoon the resale market was clogged with resellers and the phones turned out to be in stock in most stores for pickup. I got lucky and my guy must not have noticed he could have ordered one for pickup from the apple store down the street. $500 was possible but you had to be really fast last Friday.

When I say fast I mean picking up the phone at 8am and calling the guy at 830 and having the cash in my bank by 9am

Not everyone's experience. I was leery about losing the home button, but within 10 minutes decided that the gestures work even better. I don't miss the home button.

At all.

Some guy out in LA who will prolly chime in sold two morning of X release for
$500 profit each and got a free X effectively.

Kudos to him

Only you can determine if it's worth it to you.

I paid cash for a 256GB Silver X and, for me, it's worth every penny.

No one can make that call for you but you.

LOL @ doing actual calculations for a 140$ profit... you could almost buy a full share of apple stock with that!

After few days of using it, I honestly think it might not be worth it. Because you do sacrifice some good features like super fast Touch ID and better screen aspect ratio for most contents(I’m coming from 7+). The screen is noticeably smaller, my wife didn’t want it after seeing mine, she said she wants keep her 7+.
I’ll keep mine, I love new tech and like to be the first the experience them. Plus I run a small YouTube channel so I’d like to keep up with the newest.
For normal day to day useage I don’t see any advantage yet, it takes time for contents to catch up. Which might take even longer since Apple still introduced the regular aspect ratio size phones(8, 8+) with the same processor.
You sound like you are smart with your financial decisions, so the longer you wait will only save your more money.

Gotcha! I guess what kept you from making a better profit was iPhone Xs available at the stores on release day and even the next day. I did notice some people priced the iPhone X 256gb for $2000 on Facebook marketplace in my area and the next day I saw the same phone for $1400 lol

Wow lucky you! I would definitely try something like this if I was sure I would make a $500+ profit! but I think I'm too lazy haha

I love it. The price is reasonable for the technology and the fit/finish of the final product.

It really is an amazing device, and a much more fluid touch interface without the button. Totally worth it.

My personal opinion is you have 14 days! I would say buy it and test it! if you think it's worth the money then keep it if not then just buy an iPhone 8. It's a lot of money to shell out so I understand, even if I had lots of money I would still think twice, thats why I'm taking advantage of the 14 day return policy, if I don't like it and I don't think it's worth it then its going back to Apple and I'm just keeping my iPhone 7 Plus!

Lay it on thick! All of that is subjectivity, especially coming from someone who hasn't even played with the X at all. Those gestures are but a blip in the time frame you spend on your phone, just like Touch ID is. It doesn't cost you any different. Instead of tapping, you're swiping. Not exactly painstaking work.

Every. Single. Person has come forward with the utmost praise for the phone regarding the new gestures. Sure, you're going to get the occasional buyers remorse and old habits die hard, but the vast majority of users have expressed complete happiness.

Daily tasks aren't "harder" to perform nor is the 8 "better" at every task. That's pure subjectivity and only really giving the X a good shot will give you a clear decision. I'm sure you'll be happy with either purchase, though!

I've owned all the iPhones except the original 2g at launch (except I got the 5S 6mo after launch) and I don't feel the iPhone X is worth the money, given that I have a 7 right now.

Pro is larger battery + 3gb of ram. Con is 1k price tag, faceid, larger but not really usable larger screen.

What do the numbers have to do with it?

If you can afford it and you want it, it doesn’t matter if it’s $800 or $8000.

How can any of us determine if the phone is worth it for you?
Yes it matters. worth is measures as utility/cost. You get equal utility no matter the price but the price determines your overall level of happiness.
