Hey guys who are getting their 2.4ghz MBP's replaced:

How many times did your machines get repaired? Wondering because I am about to send my late 2007 2.4ghz MBP in for its third round of repairs under applecare. Any recommendations re: who to contact? This MBP has spent 3% of its life inoperable, in the shop, or in-transit and I want satisfaction.

Thanks

Apple will replace a computer if there has been 3 repairs of the same problem. If they have all been different problems, you won't get a replacement. I mean you can try to call CSR and explain to them that it's been in repair more than you've used it and see what they say.

Why does it matter?

I understand that the dedicated graphics card is better than the 9400 in the new low end macbook pro. But what are you really getting? A NEW, SLIGHTLY HIGHER specced computer in every department except graphics. Personally, for WoW, i doubt you will notice. My brother plays WoW on perhaps the lowest end of HP desktops (slimline, 1gb ram, etc.) and it runs just fine. His friends also run WoW on even worse computers. WoW is not a particularly intense (hardware wise) game. So yes, you can feel "cheated." But why? This is how that conv. will go "Hello? this is applecare (or whatever)" "Hi, yes, see, you just gave me a free, new replacement for my 2 or so year old computer. And, well, can i have an even better one? I am being ripped off because you aren't giving me a good enough new one, even though I will never need the additional power in the better one." Really?

LOL. I've tried to play WoW on a low-specced computer and it isn't fun. Maybe your friend likes to play on low-settings but for the settings I use, there is a difference between the 9400M and 9600M GT. Is it a big difference? No but there is one. The point is, the OP bought a MacBook Pro with the 9600M GT. No one knows if he's utilizing it or not so it isn't right for Apple to assume that he isn't and send him a MacBook Pro with just 9400M. Like I stated, Apple has reserves, they should just send him the exact model rather then trying to give him the post-WWDC model thinking they did him a favor by giving him a newer model.
