My plan right now is to file a homeowners claim, which sucks because, as this was a house warming party, I just moved in about 7 weeks ago and to already have a claim is kind of disappointing, but hopefully since it's such a small amount it won't do too much damage to my rates.

I will replace the MBP and just get refunded when my claim check comes back. I'll sell my 20" C2D iMac and just use this MBP as my new desktop.

Here's a question tho, as you all seem quite knowledgeable. Could I go and buy a 15" glossy display, take the functional logic board and the LVDS cable and swap them with the damaged logic board (assuming) and LVDS cable in the matte MBP that I have. THis would make the matte hi res MBP functional, and the useless desktop replacement would be the one with the glossy display. Think that would work? Would just be less out of pocket expense, and still have the same result.

Good idea on the homeowner's claim. My renter's insurance covers up to $5,000 of electronics while I'm travelling and that is a nice piece of mind. Check with the company before buying new though - just to be sure.

As for you idea of replacing the LCD with a new LCD, regardless of quality, seems like a big pain in the ass. Have you tried seeing if Applecare will repair the machine? Just don't mention the beer

Not so sure about the claim now but will be perusing my policy this evening. I've already ordered a replacement which will arrive tomorrow, swap the HDD, and te wife can be ready for her shoot tomorrow night.

As far as this hunk, I booted to my iMac via USB and it ran fine. I also hooked up my TV via mini display port to HDMI for a few hours as well, and it ran fine. One thing I did notice is that one of the keys was a little sticky, so my guess is beer was also spilled on the keyboard. I've got to test the rest of the ports as well to find anymore damage. Hopefully I won't find anything else. I've ordered a new LVDS cable that I will try, if not a new logic board it is. I'll probably just leave it hooked up to an external for a year or so until logic boards are cheaper/available. Also, could I run the hardware test via external monitor?

Which reminds me, any of these logic board repair shops any good? I see them on eBay and I'm sure there are other places where they claim to have some luck with water damage. It's a few hundred bucks and if they can't repair it, you just pay for shipping. Anybody have any experience or recommendations?
