I can see why they might think that. The phone would take FOREVER to open these forums if I was on Edge, then making the phone connect to the network for longer, which would then mean the phone would be on for longer, thus using more bettery.

Yeah, and they did do their tests in that link, so I thought they might be right just for those reasons. Anyway, I tried using 3G going to and from work while surfing (using mass trans) for two hours. Then another day I used EDGE, which is what I always use. I'm still not sure, which is best. While at work, I turn off the 3G.

It probably depends. If you're browsing through sites that load fairly fast on Edge the speed you would have on 3G might not be worth it considering you'll get more time on Edge. Also if you have great Edge reception and poor 3G reception again Edge might be better.
