The Allure of Fake
I'm not sure if it's fake or real, but I would be surprised to see WWDC arrive without at least one counterfeit Photoshop job showing up and causing an Internet stir. For compulsive photoshop "rasterbaters," the lure of sending us rumormongers into paroxysms of speculation is just too irresistable.
That said, the alleged new PowerMac enclosure in the pic seems a bit too slavishly inspired by the Xserve case. Those grills on the front obviously echo the grill-like vents on the Xserve; but in the leaked PowerMac pic, the designer seems to have gone overboard on the grill work. Kind of amateurish, IMHO. Alternating panels of grill and solid brushed aluminum would have been much more aesthetic, and also much more akin to the current design trends at Apple (look at the Xserve and Xserve Raid).
Then again, I was dead wrong about the leaked pics of the Mirrored-Drive Door PowerMacs last year. They, too, looked like bad amateur design to me -- and they turned out to be real. Maybe Apple has lost its flair for cutting-edge design.
