Wow, that seems like the thing I should do since I have plenty that are in perfect condition and I also don't need 4 and I haven't even opened the new one yet.
You say the band is defective and got a 0$ replacement. Now you want to sell the defective band for a profit? Great!
I saw a lot of metal scratched that way. You most certainly scotch brited it. That also explains the dark colored (it's the scotch brite residue).

Don't even own scotch brite and wouldn't even know how to fix it if I did. Everything I said is exactly the truth, but everyone sure has a strong opinion. I don't know how it got scratched but I am sure it was me rubbing against something back and forth and just don't recall.

I honestly do not know. All I can say is that I didn't do anything that I am not sharing. My post was wondering if it was normal if Apple normally allows you to keep the band. I thought it was odd. I also don't think it was a defective band. The shadow you see really is one solid scratch and not some other thing. I honestly don't get what happened but I am sure I am just blocking it out. I workout a lot lifting weights and swimming and golfing and doing cross fit. I always use the sport band for those activities but maybe I forgot one time. All I can say is that I didn't try to fix it or sand it or sleepwalk or lying to anyone. It wasn't even my intention to bring this up. I just never knew Apple wouldn't want it back. I own 5 MacBook Laptops (One for each of us) - 5 Iphones 5 and higher and many other Apple products and even had a repair for a Apple TV and they exchanged - not let me keep it. Anyway, I just want it known that there is no game playing or sanding or trying to fix. One time I must have worn it and did something serious. Though I replaced the 4 links that were worn and the new ones were starting to have signs again.
