I think you are trivializing this.

Of course there is such thing as computational power overkill, but it will obviously depend on your use case. If your system can process data faster than you can supply it, all the excess potential is wasted. If all you do with a machine is word processing, than any computational power beyond what you need to process keystrokes fast enough fir a human brain to process is meaningless. If your software doesn’t do heavy GPU processing there is no point in getting an expensive one. Even with matlab and co, there is no practical difference whether your machine can finish the computation in 0.5 seconds or 0.001 seconds - it’s not going to impact your productivity. And even if the difference is larger, the more important question would be: is the reduction in processing time worth the extra investment?

True. Matlab only supports Nvidia GPU. Office does not need a GPU. I don’t do series photo nor video editing. So is there a point to upgrade to Vega 20 on a MBP 2019? Does having it speed up linux under virtual machine? Does having it just makes the machine hotter and nosier and also lose battery life faster? If it can speed up linux vm without affecting the battery life nor noise level, I will consider it.

Knowing that the keyboard will probably fail and the keyboard is not as comfortable to type as the pre-2016 ones, is it a good idea to just buy a MBP 2019 and if they redesign the series to include a better keyboard in the near future, just sell it and buy the new one? Probably lose about $2k upfront if they redesign within a year. At least, hopefully, I will stop watching reviews, trying different laptops and starting to get some work done.

I have not, however I would be warm to the idea if I know they are legit.

I am downloading the Adrenaline pack now. Can anyone confirm this is a legit source? The website looks a little....."3rd world".

No difference in SW performance test.

I coded the website up using notepad++... is my coding "3rd world" too? lol.

Wolfram Mathematica is supported on the following operating systems:

If you use macOS Catalina you will need Mathematica 12:
