I purchased two sticks of RAM to upgrade my 2.3GHz i5 Mini, but noticed some irregularities when I got the sticks home. One states CRUCIAL MAC 4GB DDR3 RAM 1066 204PIN while the other states CRUCIAL 4GB DDR3 MT/S 204PIN. The barcode and SKU on both packages are identical, as was the pricing on my receipt. The model # is also identical, CT51264BC1339. I noticed on the stick itself, one is labelled SOD and the other SODI.

My question is, are these sticks compatible with the Mini I've purchased & with each other? I've read about a RAM "boost" when using sticks of identical make. Fact or fiction?

The RAM boost you're talking about is called dual-channel mode and has been there for a loooong time. ;) And yes, this set will work in dual-channel mode and it is compatible with your mini.

DIMMs (i.e. modules) of this RAM form-factor are called SO-DIMMs. I guess SOD and SODI are both just crude abbreviations of that.

The two sticks may be from different production runs and have thus received different labels. Doesn't matter at all.

Install the set and be happy. :)

Most likely you are exactly correct. The chips them selves are different so one is most likely newer but no different in the ability to work correctly.

Also 2011 mac minis are really good at using any ram

    (ddr3 204 pin 1066 to 1866 work 1gb to 8gb sticks)

    not very picky at all.
