I already know the answer, but here it goes anyway....

Series 3 GPS (not LTE). I just noticed a nice scratch, about an inch long, across the top of my watch face. Here's the kicker, it's only visible in direct light; like a flashlight pointing directly at the screen. In all other instances, you can't see it at all. However, I KNOW it's there and it's starting to annoy me - to the point that I'm actually looking for the scratch (which only really happens when I point a flashlight at it - slow Friday night, I guess).

So, of course, I got to thinking.... I could "upgrade" to the LTE version just for the extra memory (not interested in activating LTE). I started looking around and locally sourced a Nike+ version with the black/platinum pure sport loop (I love those sport loops!). Hey, what's another $429, huh?

Essentially, I'd be gaining a few new watch faces (I like that Explorer face), a snazzy sport loop, and a non-scratched screen (until I scratch the next one). What I'd be losing is, like I said, $429, which is nothing to sneeze at.

Stupid, yes? Discuss.

Obviously the scratch is annoying you enough to the point were you contemplating purchasing a different model Apple Watch. Personally, if you can justify the price point for what you want from the device and if it will appease you to not look at that scratch any more, then why not.

Otherwise another option you have, is you can purchase a screen protector and apply it to the Apple Watch that you have now, which should hide that scratch altogether without you seeing it.

Hey if you’re going to buy the LTE you have to enable it. It will be like walking round with a halve working watch, what’s a few extra bucks a month?

I say if you're going to shell out that kind of money, go for the Stainless model, with the sapphire screen, and don't worry about scratching the watch! What's a few more bucks anyway, you can't take it with you, and as for me, I'm going to be buried in my Apple Watch, with some sort of solar setup to keep it charged!

Well, after a good night's sleep - I answered my own question; yes, it's stupid. Sticking with the S3 the way it is. Thanks for letting me verbalize my thoughts here!

I can’t live with a scratched screen. My iPhone 7+ had a .25” scratch and I got rid of it and got an 8+. I sold my SS series 0 in perfect condition. I replaced it with an SS series 3. The extra cost for the sapphire screen is well worth it to me but, not everyone is as ocd as I am. Glad you came to a conclusion that satisfies you.

When I first owned the aluminum Apple Watch, I obtained a minor scratch on the display from barely hitting it on something and it annoyed me to the point where I sold it immediately. Then I upgraded to the stainless and it was the best decision I made because of the sapphire display with the protection. So if someone can justify the price point, it might save somebody frustration in the future.

I'm in the same situation. My aluminum AW2 got a nasty scratch across the screen when it was 3 months old. It's been driving me insane and the watch is not quite a year old yet. I am considering buying another in stainless steel this month for my birthday but I'm having a hard time with justifying the purchase. FullSizeRender.jpg

I view it this way. Life is too short so if I can afford it without depriving my self of necessities and saving for the future than why not? I think if one must struggle to justify the purchase, maybe it’s not for them or they really can’t afford it.

This doesn't help your cause, but now I'm thinking I may want a screen protector on my 2 day old AW3 Nike+

I say buy it. I have three perfectly good excellent condition series 2 watches and added a Nike+ series 3 LTE watch to my collection. Be happy.

Well a few things...

1) It sounds "minor" enough that given a week or two you will stop looking for it.
2) You will get more scratches.
3) That said since you are the type of person that was bothered by this mark in the first place and certainly any bigger scratch will drive you permanently insane why not SELL your current Apple Watch (even at a slight loss) then apply that money to getting the stainless steel model with the essentially un-scratchable sapphire screen? If you were considering to spend another $429 why not spend the $649 reduced by the sale of your current watch?

I agree with the other posters. Buy a SS or a ceramic watch. There's nothing really "stupid" about your annoyance. Real life is not usually very rational. A scratch on my AW would bother me also, and I'm 87-years old. This is why I bought a Series 3 gray Edition AW.

I sold my SS series 0 and bought a SS S3 and SBSS S3. If you can afford it, sell it and replace it.

Yeah. Life’s too short not to get the things you can afford that make you happy.

I have my ceramic Edition watch up on Craigslist so far. I'll see what happens with that before I try and list the other two.

Well, call me stupid. But, changed my original plan of going with the Nike+ version. Instead, I went for the SB SS with sport band since the possibility of a repeat face scratch is high (I continuously bang all of my watches into door jambs when I enter or leave a room, for some reason - probably because I'm a clutz....). Should be here in a couple of days. Interested to see how shiny this thing is in real life.

you did good, no body is more impervious to scratches than the SB SS and no screen than the sapphire. now you have both. it is highly likely your watch will remain flawless for its entire life even banging it around and if something does happen it will be a big one, like a totally shattered screen. no tiny scratches that you have to decide to live with...

Excellent choice. The Diamond like carbon coating is highly durable. I have zero scratches on my Watch after all it's use. And pairing bands isn't as difficult as it seems. I have black stainless link bracelet and it looks very nice. It has a glossy black Finish, but it's a subtle classy look.

Excellent choice I think you will be delighted with it. I have one and love it. I have the black leather loop and black Milanese loop band. There are numerous bands to go with the SBSS.

Yeah, I have a bunch of straps already - various sport, a few sport loops, a knock-off Milanese loop (probably will get the official Apple one down the road), and assorted other 3rd party. I'm generally not concerned if the lugs match the case, so colorful or otherwise non-black straps don't bother me; on the contrary I rather like the contrast.

I do prefer black fasteners but, not picky about colors as black case goes with just about any color.

Happy to hear you got what you really wanted. There are too many stories on here where people struggle with which watch to buy. I say if you can truly afford it get what you want. I know I have settled for things in my life and regretted it which cost me more in the long run.
