I agree with the other posters. Buy a SS or a ceramic watch. There's nothing really "stupid" about your annoyance. Real life is not usually very rational. A scratch on my AW would bother me also, and I'm 87-years old. This is why I bought a Series 3 gray Edition AW.

Is that why you bought the gray ceramic watch? :p

SBSS came in today and color me impressed. Very nice fit and finish and has some heft to it - I feel like I'm wearing a watch again (I come from a long line of mechanical watches for many years). I think the SS actually pairs better with the variety of bands I have, so there's a bonus.

Ran into trouble un-pairing my old watch, so had to set this one up as new - no biggie. Funny to notice the backups of my old S0 and S1 still in the watch app!

Updating to 4.2 as I type this (I guess one downside of the back-up not working correctly...)

Anyone want to buy a slightly used Space Grey Series 3 non-LTE with a scratch on the face you can only see in direct sunlight??? ;)

Well, after a good night's sleep - I answered my own question; yes, it's stupid. Sticking with the S3 the way it is. Thanks for letting me verbalize my thoughts here!
I would probably not like the scratch and I would somehow “see” it all the time. I wouldn’t replace though and with the SS models, I have abused the watch and never noticed a scratch on the face.

I’ve seen people obsess over a scratch on the back of the watch. :)

Any scratch on anything I own bothers me.

Personally, it would bother me. That’s why I use a screen protector.

When I owned my Sport model, It accrued a minor scratch. I sold in two days because it annoyed me. Upgraded to the stainless model and no scratches whatsoever.

I’ve had 2 sport models, a series 1 and now a 3. Never had a scratch on either but I use a screen protector. Never had a single mark on the body.

So, how much more did you ultimately spend?

The difference between the Nike+ and the SBSS is 220 bucks! So, I guess that's how much more I ultimately spent.
And you are okay w that considering that when the Apple Watch 4 comes out, yours will be worth less than $300?

Also, you’re not using LTE?

I think every situation is different what can cause a scratch. But I will say the 7000 series aluminum used on the sport model is very durable. I never had any scratches on the casing, and it also hold up very well on my iPhone 6s and 7, which used the same aluminum.

I wore my SS series 0 for 2.5 yrs and will wear my SS S3 for at least that long. Resale is not a consideration for me. I think the upgraded materials are worth it. I have to look at it all day long and want to be delighted each time I do.
[doublepost=1512834433][/doublepost]I get the impression that those who say the price of SS watch is not worth it want the SS but, really can’t afford it and are justifying settling for the aluminum. Not criticizing, just saying.

With all due respect, why do you care? If one waited to buy the latest and greatest of technology, one would never buy anything for the fear that the next version is just around the corner.

And, I am using LTE now, just set it up yesterday.

I appreciate your concern for me and all, but I'm happy with my decision. I'm sorry you aren't.

Actually, I’m in the same dilemma and just want to hear your thoughts. Easy, killer. Do you enjoy LTE?

Apologies - hard to ascertain tone sometimes, plus I'm crotchety and old, so there's that....

I am increasingly happy that I went with the SS version, regardless of additional cost. This AW just feels "better" to me and more like an actual timepiece than a toy. Before I slapped the stainless version on my wrist, I was totally fine with the aluminum. But, now, that aluminum feels flimsy and toy-like. I know it's not and it's a very tough material, but it just feels different. I also really like the look of the DLC, which also surprised me. It's not nearly as flashy as I thought it would be and, again, looks more like a watch.

As for the LTE, I don't have an opinion as of now. It works, I know that much, but I don't know if I'll continue after the 3 month trial. There is a certain piece of mind, I suppose, to being connected if I happen to leave my phone behind, but I don't know if that piece of mind is worth $10-$15 a month, plus "fees". I'll probably cancel after the trial unless I have some epiphany between now and then. That said, I appreciate the extra storage the LTE version provides - I like having music with me and it's nice to go out for a walk with just the watch and earphones... and clothes, of course.

Is that OK with you??!!! :p

I'm sure many do want the SS.

I can afford it, but I just can't justify paying that much for a disposable Watch.

This^^^. Why can’t people just accept that we don’t all think alike and value things differently.

My regular non-Apple watches have always tended to look like complete garbage after about a year just due to being banged into stuff, sliding the band around against things, etc. When it’s an item you wear on your body, it’s going to take some knocks. I’m not especially careful with my watches unfortunately.

So I figured when I got my Apple Watch it would not fare too well over time. Surprisingly the Space Grey casing still looks like the day I got it—not one scratch or scuff anywhere. The glass has two areas of damage—one is where my wife’s diamond on her wedding ring grazed against it, and the other is right up by the band at the top where it tends to brush into things. The cool thing is that none of these marks are easily visible. In fact, they’re downright difficult to even find unless you shine a REALLY bright light on them at exactly the right angle, and even then they’re very faint.

If it were my iPhone or iPad, I would be extremely annoyed by even these light scratches. But on my Apple Watch, being that it’s a watch I wear on my wrist every day in all types of situations and use cases, I’m downright impressed with how well its held up and how new it still looks in general.

My opinion is that it’s a watch first and foremost. It’s going to take damage. If the scratches aren’t easy to see in every day use, I wouldn’t sweat it too much.
