Apple already uses too many parts from Samsung. Apple should not be too dependent on one supplier especially when Samsung is making iPhone and iPad competing products.

The increased brightness is always nice, also the 15% cheaper price could be nice if it gets passed on to consumers, or allows other better hardware to be used in other areas.

The viewing angles on the current iPad are already far surpass any other displays I have used. I can still see what is on the screen when looking at it from the edge of the screen.

Maybe they also use less power?

We know that the screens weigh less (10 grams less) it would be reasonable to have them use less power also which would require less of a battery which would make it possible to have a flatter back and weigh significantly less, it all works together. I hope we get these screens but there is some confusion as to whether they are really available at this time. I can't see what else they would use but I hope we find out soon.

It does get passed on to the consumer, as extra features not lower price.
This is the basic choice of a business do we use productions savings to make a) a cheaper product that never improves or b) improved product that never gets cheaper.

Apple are very clear which one they have chosen not happy then their will be others who will go the other way and you can sponsor them.

So few companies choose option b which is why option b consumers tend to be fairly loyal.

Greater viewing angle is fine for groups of people watching a video or viewing photos, but do we really want to make it easier for people to look over our shoulders to see what we are reading / viewing?

I'm really sorry to say this.. but Samsung is cooking up some evil stuff to knock Apple down... This seriously disturbs me... 1280x800 resolution? 8MP camera? FULLHD 1080p video??? This is getting out of hand.. I want a "There's one more thing!!!!"

Apple can make most specs irrelevant with simple ui, chicque and koolaid. But given it is looking into the new screen tech from Samsung, Apple may have decided to up its game for iPad3.

Well they had better up their game pretty soon! I seriously hope Samsung's (and any other electronics maker) antics chide Apple into doing something outrageous and blowing everything out of the water.

One comment at engadget about the displays was that he had no trouble with his iPhone. Not iPad, but iPhone. DA!

Another says he can't wait for the technology to come to computer displays. One mentioned a Dell display that has problems with both vertical and horizontal viewing angles. Another said, "When can I get one of these displays for my computer monitor with higher than 72ppi?"

My 2008 23-inch Apple Cinema Display has NO such problems. I would believe that the displays on newer Apple products (such as iMac) are of the same quality in this respect.

Was this info REALLY from TWO months ago?

It would seem so. The photo in the Engadget article from December is the same as in the recent 9 to 5 mac piece. It looks like they recycled the news about that screen. They may have had some new info about it being in the iPad though. It could mean that screen is in production now.
I hope so.
