There is a G4 MDD available locally, I believe I could get the package for close to $100.
The ad reads in part...
"G4 Mac Dual 1.42 GHz, 2 MB Ram, 150 and 40 GB Hard Drives/ 10.4.11 OS: comes with 17" Monitor, Apple Metal Keyboard and Dot Mouse."
The monitor is a flat screen, (not Apple) and I have no idea what a "Dot Mouse" is.
What's the consensus here?

Also how much noisier might this unit be then my recently acquired 1.25 Ghz single MDD?

I presume that "dot mouse" is the Mighty Mouse, the keyboard is really nice. I say see if the seller will lower the price if no screen is included. I would go for it, I think it would be nice to have a top of the line stock G4 tower

I concur that the "dot mouse" is probably the Mighty Mouse.

I'd check on the "Apple Metal Keboard" though. There is a full size one and there is a smaller size one. If you don't care either way it's no big deal, but I hate small keyboards with my desktops.

I agree with MacCubed as well. Maybe if the seller would let it go for $80? Sounds more in line I think.

I'm assuming that $100 is $100CAD, or about $78 USD.

If so, I probably wouldn't even dicker on the price(although it can't hurt to try) and just grab it. The dual 1.42 is on my "wish list."

Do you mean 2GB of RAM instead of 2MB of RAM ?

I'm pretty sure that's word for word what the seller said. I guess it's 2 GB because 2 MB is nothing, and to find RAM that is compatible with the G4 that is that low in capacity is hard, if not impossible

I assume that the "Apple Metal Keyboard" is the full size one since the smaller one is Bluetooth and the G4 most likely won't have an installed Bluetooth module. I could be either, but I feel that it would be the full size USB as opposed to the small size Bluetooth

Assuming that is the case then I have to agree with you.

So…there never was a wired version of the smaller keyboard then?

Not made by Apple, other companies reproduce the keyboards using lower quality materials. It's quite common to see Apple rip offs all over the place now.

Still waiting for a reply from the seller, also the ad contained a photo, and yes it is the full size apple keyboard, which if purchased new is approx $50 itself.
This is the second G4 MDD Ad I've inquired about, the first one about a month ago for $30 and that seller never did respond to my message.
I just hate the waiting and wondering!

Good luck! Hope you get it

I'm sorry that you seem to be having such bad luck getting in touch with sellers on these.

I can be a bit obnoxious at times when it comes to CL stuff, but I'd be burning up the seller on a dual 1.42...but then I'm a bit crazy when it comes to stuff like that.

It's something I've learned from the watch collecting world :)

Would you believe I finally heard back from this seller, late Saturday evening, his message was short and to the point. "Are you still interested? Home only for tomorrow."
Well seeing as how I like to do business with cash in my pocket, (makes dickering easier), and my bank is closed on Sunday this was a no-go for me.
Maybe I'll try for a replay next Sunday, only this time I'll be ready and loaded for bear.

Actually, Apple did make a small version of the wired keyboard - I have one that I use on my G5, and it's a wonderful little keyboard :)

MB869LL/A if you ever want to ebay one.

Finally connected with the seller of this Dual 1.42 MDD, I'm going to view it tomorrow after lunch, and I've got the cash so let the haggling begin! :D

Well I got the 1.42 MDD home today, and things are looking pretty good.
I see it has a FW800 port plus a very hefty copper heat-sink which my last FW800 MDD did not have.
Plus it has a 9800 pro video card,(not bad eh) and max memory, in fact the only downside is a scratch in the side panel which unfortunately is the side I see on my desk.
Now to my question, I'd like to change this panel for a good one from another MDD, I've removed the four screws and the panel is loose except for some kind of a support in the middle, right behind the Apple logo.
Anyone know how to release this?

Ok there are these little tab things next to the power supply wires looks like this
