Looking at how things been going, is this year the biggest split between model 8s and x buyers?
I'm not talking about hating each other or anything like that. I'm talking about sales and availability wise.
I thought 8 models were going to be sold out in less than 2 minutes or something....

Not even close. Looks like no love for the 8/8 Plus this year.

I think you will find out there are two separation of buyers this year:

Those who are upgrading from an older model iPhone to the iPhone 8 or those who are not as interested in the latest features and capabilities the iPhone X offer.

And then there are Those were upgrading to the iPhone X regardless who want to have the latest specifications and technology.

You're right. Lump me into that "upgrading from an older model" group haha. I don't really have the patience to wait for the X. The benefits don't outweigh that delay (for me!)

It will be spun as a positive or negative by people - there's already lots of posts theorising the 8 is a flop and/or people are waiting for the X and the forums will be full of this for weeks and months to come....

I was thinking about this, but I think this year isn't even about flop or not. It's more of what's right for the individual. They are seeking best value of they can get and willing to pay. When they announce x, i'm seeing people starting to realized that having the best top phone isn't the way to go..but what's the best for them in terms of value and needs.

I'm just glad my order went through and will be arriving on launch day. The "oh look at me I'm cool phase cuz I have the new iPhone!" lasts for probably 1-2 days at most and then I move on and I'm assuming so does everyone else. The 8 Plus will give me all the performance I need, in a familiar form factor and there won't be any unknowns. The X is more expensive and hasn't proven itself, I'll wait for the successor.

I mean whatever floats their boat. I'm not going to look down on anybody ordering an X, just as I would hope nobody looks down on those getting an 8 or 8 Plus.
I don't believe we are in "look down on others" situation. I noticed a dynamic change since x was announced. people are saying that "yeah, too expensive" or "I'm not waiting that long" or "i want iphone 8 because plus is too big" or "x is awesome, i'll buy it."

It looks like we are at the point where we just buy whatever we need...and be able to afford. X uses the same chip...so there's not too much differences between 8 and x other than specific features.

Judging from the hype, I would guess so. But it's just that - hype. I hope you're right because I think the 8 and 8 Plus are solid phones and worthy upgrades, I don't want to see them overshadowed.

The X really no longer interested me after I got the details and picked the SG 8+ 256 for this next Friday. Also ordered the SB stainless AW3 with cellular but might cancel that.

This is the first time in a few years apple is letting us buy a new phone sim free at launch. Usually you have to enter your carrier information to get a new launch phone.

It seems even apple knows the 8 and 8 plus won treed special hoops to jump through.

There will be shades of the old 5C debate; the 8 will be more popular than 5C, but there will be some division

The real problem with the X is that supply will likely be extremely limited for months. I don't really see supply meeting demand (by which I mean you can walk into a store and buy your desired model with no lines or shortages) well into 2018.

That could be possible. Although, I'm not an Apple employee..so I wouldn't know what's really going down there.

Shipping date are slipping..but not quite as fast as usual. Maybe...don't know...
Let me ask you this.
Why should I as a phone buyer get the iPhone 8 for 700 when I can get the iPhone 7 for 550? Serious question it seems all the 8 has is wireless charging a faster processor. As for the processor, I don't think that matters as much in 2017 as it used too.

Yes the glass back is cool looking, but many of us put cases on the phone, especially if the back is slippery
