i don't know about anyone taking much of apple's market (they have a captive audience that will buy whatever they put out), but i agree with everything else you've said. the iphone 4 was great, but it didn't even match the screen size all other decent smartphones had and continue to have. they do seem to be operating with blinders on. this september will be very telling indeed. if they still have the small 3.5" screen, they're going to look kind of foolish.I thought that before the release of the 3G, 3GS and 4, but each one has just been a bump of the last. I'm also going to hold out until they release the next gen, but it'll need to be very good to take my eyes away from the Galaxy S2.
I've realised that Apple are excellent at revolution, but rubbish at evolution.
They can shut themselves away for a few years and come out with a complete game changer having solved all manner of hurdles. But they can't then keep that pace and evolve their products - which is where other manufacturers swoop in (like MS) and take Apple's Market share.
It's a shame.
I was sort of in the same boat, only my boat was a year older! I had the 3G model and it was really getting to me. I would have to reset it all the time and it was soooooooo slow. I felt that it was simply too long to wait until September for a new phone so I bought a 16 GB Refurb iphone 4 from AT&T for $99. I swear that phone looked new in every way when I took it out of the box and when I checked the usage it only had a little over an hour of use on it. Depending on what the next iphone is (4S or 5) if I really feel that I have to have it, I will just sell my iphone 4 for current market value (which should be between $300 and $400) and apply that money to the cost of a new one. Even if the new one cost $600, it should really only end of costing me about $200 or $300 after I sell my iphone 4. Since this is the same cost I would have to pay in September if I waited, I really think this is a no brainer. I get a new phone now that is light years faster and when the next iphone comes out I get it for the same price it would cost me if I waited (assuming I can sell my iphone 4) which doesn't appear to be a problem when looking at the history of iphone sales on ebay.

i absolutely think that iOS5 will not run on the 3GS.Does anyone else agree that the new iOS won't support 3GS? Also do you think that Apple will introduce future white phones as a mid cycle trap?

I agree with you there.I think what I meant is that they release a new product, build-up a customer base, but then the majority are tempted away to other, more superior products.
There's no doubt the first iPhone was awesome and completely changed the way people use their phones. The fact that most other smartphones look like the iPhone says it all.
But I think the iPhone will be essentially the same for several years to come whilst all other manufacturers will continue to innovate and improve the user experience. Slowly but surely, the iPhone's market share will become very reduced, devs will put more time into Android etc. apps, third-party case/accs. manufacturers will bring out less products that work with iPhone and it'll just be a slippery slope to the iPhone simply being unsupported.
