Every once in a while I feel like it's being a bit choppy. Here's the best solution I've found to cure this issue:

Step 1: Ask you friend if you can use his Android phone, (any Android based phone will do).
Step 2: Play around on the Android phone for about 1-2 minutes.
Step 3: Go back to using your iPhone.

This always helps to remind me what a smooth operator the iPhone really is. Hope this helps. ;)

I don't have any android friends. The longest I got to use android is when I tried the Droid at a verizon store once. Wasn't amazing.

My brother and half of my friends and employees have Android phones. I've messed around with pretty much all of them except the Droid X. Haven't been overly impressed with any of them.

BTW, I am in no way, shape or form an Apple fanboy. The iPhone is the only Apple product I have ever and probably will ever own. I like it because it's just the best smart phone on the market. I've seen them all...nothing compares.

Tired of saying this now, but there are bugs in iOS4 that eat cpu cycles.

I can replicate one every time, opening the camera, using it, then exiting it, even killing in "multitasking" makes the idle cpu usage 10-15% higher, and doesn't drop until the phone is restarted.

This causes noticeable lags in menus, but Apple doesn't seem to have fixed it...

Try getting a cpu usage app, and see for yourself, it should be 90-97 range all the time, with some dips, using the camera and mine is 80~, sucks.

Wow, you're right. I had never really noticed this before, but after reading your post I tried it on my phone and noticed the jerkiness of the animation going back to the home screen.

It doesn't really bother me, but hopefully Apple will address it in a firmware update.

Open voice memos more than once.

We have the same phone, I'm sure yours is exactly like mine (meaning, I restored as new and did not revert to a backup, so everything was as default as can be)

There's no way you don't have the issue (you probably just don't know what I'm talking about, which is understandable.)

I'm not going to argue with you anymore though. Just know, I submitted a bug report and hopefully (for my own sake) it will get resolved sooner than later.

dude I just opened and closed the voice memos app like 5 times. It's the same every time. I don't know, maybe I'm not seeing it.

I believe there are some quirks that Apple needs to fix in 4.1. The extra CPU cycles after opening Camera definitely seems to be one of them.

No, you don't have a 100% smooth iPhone. Sorry to break the news to you.

However, if you believe it's smooth, then all power to you. I wish I was as care free as that.

That is all.

I'm starting to notice that it's not just camera.app that's the problem. The iPhone starts to stutter just after a little while of use.

Ugh. I really hope Apple is working on a solution soon. My iPhone 4 used to be very smooth and fluid.

The only way to make it smooth again after it starts to get jerky is to manually close apps (which I used to never have to do)

Anyone claiming to have their phone run 100% smooth is completely lying. There are times that it goofs up, they are just to proud to admit it.

I know right! 4.0.2 wasn't perfect, but at least I didn't have to quit apps to make my iPhone run smoothly. I could keep every app in my tray always.

After I quit all the apps in 4.1 (I know they're not really running) or closing them from the task try, my iPhone runs smooth again for about an hour. As I open apps again during normal usage, the phone starts to stutter and lag again.

Anyone thinking because they have a problem, everyone else must have that problem is completely delusional.;)

I don't see how it's delusional. We have the same iPhone right? I've also done a full restore with no backup. I've also done an upgrade. I've also upgraded my brother's iPhone 4 and saw the same problem.

I'm pretty comfortable in believing that there are no magical iPhones out there running a special build of 4.1 that doesn't have the same bugs in it that I have.

Same software, same hardware = same bugs.

It's not my fault that you're don't pay attention enough to notice the problem I speak of or you just don't care enough to notice the problem.

Tell you what, I could drive to your house right now, snatch your iPhone and show you the problem using your iPhone, but I don't have the energy or resources to do that.

So instead, you're just going to have to believe me because I've done all the necessary tests to prove to myself that there are some problems with 4.1 that were NOT in 4.0.2.

To say that your software doesn't have the same bugs mine has is delusional.

The poll says otherwise. ;)

Hahaha. Yeah, like the poll means anything. The poll is probably filled with people like you.

It's kind of like when most people don't notice screen tearing or even know what it is. Does that mean it doesn't exist? Most people can play a video game and not even see anything wrong with it despite the skipped frames and horrible screen tearing. I know people like this.

I think this problem is most noticeable by people who are sensitive to frame skipping and judders.

Do you have a 60Hz LCD TV? Well you most likely experience judder, but you may not know that unless you saw the same movie on a plasma TV or a 120Hz TV that can output a true 24fps.

Small rant, but that's what I mean when I say that not everyone is sensitive to these types of issues.

I wish I had a way to capture what's happening.

Is the world better or worse off because of this observation? Clearly you are a special person, as you posted. Most can see defects, design quirks, flaws in every thing made by people. But your type can see more cause your "special" skills allow it. Such a load of crap. Take a walk and enjoy.
