13inch Macbook | 2GB RAM | Intel GMA 950 with 64 MB VRAM | TRANSPARENT

PPC | 1.5 GHz | 1.25 GB | NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 w/ 64 MB VRAM | NO TRANSPARENCY

:(

Looks like only PPC macs with nvidia cards are unsupported. Guess it's a driver thing.

Not really, so far only the 12" PowerBook and the iBooks lack it if I'm not mistaking.

looks to be only a specific model of NVIDIA card.
the only machines reporting no transparency have exactly the same video card, GeForce FX Go5200 32MB. (at least from what i see in this thread)

64MB, not 32 ;)

edit: iBooks have opaque menu bars, too, and I believe they have a Mobility Raedon 9200

actually i dont think it's the memory spec on the card, it may be the GeForce FX Go5200 series.

The trend I think is that transparency doesnt work on GPUs that dont support Core Image, as well as on GeForce FX 5200.

I still don't get it though. Why would a blurred, transparent menu be possible but not a blurred, transparent menu bar?

possibly outdated driver.
there could be a deprecated function call in the drivers for the affected models.

It could be that those menus are built-in differently that isn't dependent on Core Image. I'm not sure and possibly wrong, but considering that they might use a different process, it's possible.

Powermac G5 | Dual 1.8 GHz | 3GB RAM | NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 w/ 64MB VRAM | NO TRANSPARENCY

Macbook | 2.0 GHz Core2Duo | 2 GB RAM | TRANSPARENT

both were upgrade

i've found that the menubar transparency fails on any machine with a GeForce FX5200 including G5s, iMacs & powerbooks.

odd that, as the 5200 supposedly supports Core Image....
We know that it can do the "translucency" effect (transparancy + blur) because it does it in the menus!

But I agree that seems to be the trend.
